Forums - Nintendo - When will wii third party support will equal DS's?

I think 2010. I am not sure since the ds had a weak support at the beggining with the psp getting all of the tp support. So will the story be repeated will the same as happen with the psp happen to the 360/ps3?. In this case it would be harder for the wii since unlike the psp the 360/ps3 have no piracy problems. In addition Microsoft is in the race so they can buy third party support. So what do you think will happend?

Discuss.

Aaaaaahhhhh!!!! Punctuation was invented for a reason, my friend!

On topic though, I'll stick to what I've always said: next year is when the major wave will arrive. I've always seen the Wii as the console version of the DS when it comes to third parties, but since Wii games are more expensive and take longer to make you have to add a year or so to the DS' total (ergo three rather than two years).

Third parties bet on Nintendo losing. They lost, and shortly after they turned to the DS, the system started to flourish with 3rd-parties. The same is likely to happen with the Wii.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

When the Wii userbase equals that of the DS and the profits made from the Wii validate the vastly higher development cost.

So...maybe a couple years or so.

2009. YES!!! next year, we're gonna see a fully-third party support for the Wii. It has already begun.

2009 will be the year for wii, talking about third parties. 2007 & 2008 have been wii' years already....and of course, the end of 2006 (when the wii came out)

Actually the Wii seems to be getting support much faster than the DS. This is mostly because Western Developers usually tend to make Console and PC games more than Handheld ones. Though the DS seems to be having alot of western support lately most of its support is Japanese.  I'm going to say we will see support on par with the beginning of the DS' third party support next year, then in 2010 we will see support similar to what we have on the DS now, and then I guess after that it will stay at the same level or even increase more.

I doubt as much as the DS. The DS is a lot easier and faster to develop for and and piracy problems might hinder some devs from putting a lot of games on the PSP. The PS3 and 360 don't have piracy problems.

Not as much as the DS, but quite a lot. As long as I get my JRPGs...I'm cool <3 2009 will be the "wave" IMO. Even the DS took over two years to get decent support. The Wii hasn't been out two yet.

@Bolded I hope you are joking.

i think 2009 will be the transitional year. publishers will see the good sales of 2008 wii exclusives such as deadly creatures, de blob as well as multiplats such as force unleashed and cod5. 2009 will see high sales for bigger core titles. not only first party with disaster and icarus but also third party with conduit, madworld, cursed mountain and monster hunter 3(plus any unnannounced titles). also with the quantum 3, cod4 and athena engines the tech will be there to create great wii titles

what do people think?

The development costs for the Wii aren't that much higher than development costs for (high end?) GC games...

Well I'm not an expert on the matter, but I imagine that Wii development costs (especially for high end games) would be higher than DS development costs, at least by a couple million. Then again, I reiterate that I'm not an expert on it.
