well the last trailer of resistance 2 clearly put it ahead of gears 2 in my opinion

Hehe, that doesn't surprise me.

Curious was it the 19 hours to live trailer that was entirely CG OR was it the live-action "Abraham" trailers that put R2 in front of Gears 2 graphically

For me in terms of graphics, I'd say Gears 2 right now, obviously that might change on release, but Gears 2 looks fantastic. R2 looks great too, just not gears good.

As for the whole game, I'm going to like Gears 2 gameplay better (because it's  not just another FPS) but for scale/epicness/story it'll depend on how good a job the " famous fiction writer" does for Gears 2. R2 threw the first punch with the 200 ft enemy, Gears 2 will need a premo story to trump that, because as we know R2 will at worst have a decent story.

Both look shit.

I'm off to play Sonic.

Fixed ;)

Graphicly, I think Gears 2 edges out Resistance 2 in most areas, but then I imagine The Leviathan (which is one thing Gears 2 needs to match graphicly before it wins a 100%, damn that thing is a beauty) picking up, and eating the head of a brumak

If the following is true (which I suspect it will be) then a comparison is silly IHMO

Gears will have more detail/textures but smaller overall environments and smaller draw distance and less on screen for most of the time

RFOM2 will have less detail/textures but larger overall environments and longer draw distance and more on screen for more of the time

That's based on playing both first games (and allowing for Gears opening up some environments).

As ever if you want to compare you need a level playing field - i.e. an almost identical, large level in each engine with same amount of effects/activity on screen.

Both look very good to me taking different approaches and both will be a blast.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

RFOM2 will have less detail/textures

I would disagree with that. I have the impression that Gears has pretty low details/textures, closeup images are always a bit blurry and you cannot distinguish fine details. MGS4,Killzone2 and I think also Resistance2 characters and environments seem to be more detailed. But Gears makes up for this with an amazing array of lighting shaders that make the whole picture look a bit like its raytraced. I really do not know which games look "better" or are technological more advanced. I would give the edge to Gears2 in direct competition to R2 (And to Killzone2 in competition with Gears2). But it depends on what you like.

Edit: On looking at some of the screenshots of Gears2 some of the characters really have amazingly detailled textures. But its sometimes really hard to distinguish different parts of the characters. I would say Gears2 is by far more advanced technically than Resistance2 I just am not sure if I like the results. I like games to have a clearer look.

Both the Resistance games showed outstanding graphics with great textures, rendered environments and an awesome storyline with some sci-fi weaponry.

Gears......well let's just say it's another title that Microsoft have aded a "2" next to.  Good game on PC but I would throw it on top of the rest of my pile of 'Great' innovative games.  Doesn't bring anything new worth spending money on.  Nothing Epic or Microsoft couldn't have achieved in a patch for the original....

So hard to tell, both look great, but didn't Gears win the award for best graphics at e3? I guess they saw more than we did.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Gears won a award for best graphics at E3, there were a lot of sites giving out their own personal 'awards' for the games shown.

Gears 1 was best looking game when it released and Epic is really good developers so Gears 2 looks probaly better altough Resistance 2 looks good much better than Resistance 1.
