If the following is true (which I suspect it will be) then a comparison is silly IHMO
Gears will have more detail/textures but smaller overall environments and smaller draw distance and less on screen for most of the time
RFOM2 will have less detail/textures but larger overall environments and longer draw distance and more on screen for more of the time
That's based on playing both first games (and allowing for Gears opening up some environments).
As ever if you want to compare you need a level playing field - i.e. an almost identical, large level in each engine with same amount of effects/activity on screen.
Both look very good to me taking different approaches and both will be a blast.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
