Forums - Gaming - MGS 4 using only 50% of power?

I never heard about that...

im pretty sure id use much more than that, though can it really be classed as a percentage?

You always use the "full power" available to you. You learn new techniques and optimizations down the road to improve your game.

if uncharted uses around 45% of PS3's power then i guess mgs4 uses the same....

Who gives a shit how much power MGS4 uses? It could use 10% of the PS3's power and still rock.

In all honesty though, I don't think it uses more than 85%. Those with any technical knowledge of the PS3 will realise that no game will ever use 100% of the PS3's power, and one of the SPE side processors in CELL are used for the OS.

lol .. i love ur thread !! u have the source link up there !! and u made a great argument !!
im sure its not a 100% no game can take advantage of ps3 or 360 full power , juss like someone who post a thought and think he/shes 100% rite and everyone else thinks otherwise

OP that story has already been debunked as fud. and is old. but credit for posting anyways.

off topic, ive gotten to act 3 on mgs4 OMG anyone who has done act 3, how wondrous do them visuals look?

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

well they base their % in how many spe they use
square enix says their white engine (a very powerful engine as seen in recent scans)

only use 4/6 spe, meaning just around 66-70% of the power of the ps3 power.

Any time someone says "It uses x% of the consoles power!" they are wrong and they are very very silly for saying such things.

Consoles and PCs simply do not work in terms of usage percentages, there are far too many parts of any system that can be the bottleneck in any number of scenarios within an application for any number like this to be anything but pulled out of someone's ass.

Its a nice soundbyte for consumption of those who don't know better and are willing to gobble it up.  Outside of that its useless...utterly.

Please read this people.   It's really ridiculous to claim you're using X% of a systems power because X% of system power is a metric that cannot be calculated.

Using 50% of the available SPE's does not, I repeat, does not mean it's using only 50% of the PS3's power.

who said that

I think I read it somewhere.

See, the way these things usually work is when you post your awesome story you usually provide some sort of source.

Indeed...

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
