Forums - Sales - Do you find any correlation between XBOX360 and HD DVD..?

First i want to make few things clear... This analysis is based on NPD USA Numbers.

This came to my mind out of nowhere that there is a high correlation between XBOX360 of 2008 and HD DVD of 2007...

- At the start of 2007 HDDVD was far ahead of Blu- Ray.. but Blu-Ray started to win from the first week of 2007..

- HD DVD reached quite a few milestones earlier like to 100,000 first to market, full feature players... but Blu Ray kept winning slowly and steadily during 2007.

- Around April i think Toshiba STARTED dropping the price of HD DVD player.

- Then they managed to get the exclusive deal from Paramount and Dreamworks and the biggest hit of the 2007 goes HD DVD exclusive even after it was suppose to come on both format.

- Then started offering free movies

- They managed to get more features in the HD DVD release of the movie like 300 had more features than its Blu Ray counterpart.

- Toshiba also went to with $100 HD DVD players around november and i think again during X-Mas...

But at the end of the day they lost..

So if we correlate with XBOX

- its much cheaper than PS3... and in current economic conditions price does make a lot of difference.

- XBOX has more exclusives.

- Multiplatform games showed better result on XBOX or MS has secured some DLC exclusive for them.

- They started earlier and reached 10M and 20M first.

But apart from all the negatives of Sony they r managing to win week after week.. (although unlike Blu Ray they PS3 do loose some weeks but not many).

So do u think Sony is a bit lucky lately that apart from all the negatives and anti PR and their stupid decission they r still managing to comeback from behind and win...

So what you're saying is, the 360 is going to lose all its 3rd party support and go under in a year?

Gaming is very different from movie-watching. HD-DVD was bound to lose because of ps3 which was to be bought by gamers regardless asnd count as more players in favor of blu-ray. Plus Sony is bigger than Toshiba and muscled their way around just like M$ is doing in gaming right now.

If we use the muscle theory aspect as the reason for blu-ray's victory, we can also state that it is the ps3 that'll go the way of HD-DVD lol

Sony had the 2 of the highest selling consoles back to back. so lets get this straight, they lost this gen...big time. They are fighting for scraps with microsoft while nitnendo is kicking everyones ass and not even trying.

I wouldn't say Sony is lucky cause there isn't any lower sony could go. You don't see an artist selling 10 million records go to selling nothing with the next album.

Sonys Brand name alone will sell a console for a while...

As far as bluray VS HDDVD comparison...quite interesting that bluray won this battle.

Not exactly... just that the effort MS is putting in it is not bearing as much result..

I still like watching my HD-DVD's over my Blu-Rays. There's something about the picture, at least on my TV, that just looks better. And I liked the way they integrated bonus features better in some ways.

*shrugs*

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?
