Forums - Sony - SCEA President: "We don't buy exclusivity."

talking about buying exclusives, do you know if nintendo does that too? i guess the deal with capcom last gen cost them some money too, and i can't imagine square came back to nintendo last gen just because they found out nintendo isn't that bad as they thought.

does someone know about that? i mean, the other two are pretty clear, microsoft does it and sony has surely done it two back in the days.

Ha ha! Not anymore they don't.

All of them buy developers, but that's different than buying specific games.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

The guy is a moron, you all aint any better for whining about what he says.

Sony is funding in one way or another the Epic game, Heavy rain, Noir, has some money in White Night Story and Lair.

Tretton said that sony doesn't live off of third parties? What the hell is he smokin, because I want some.

Ignoring all of the Sony first party are we? Look it up.

Hey, I'm not saying that Sony doesn't have good first party games. I love GT, God of War, Jak and Daxter, Rachet and Clank. I'm pretty much living off of Sony's first party titles on the PSP.

But last generation, Sony's first party got overshadowed by the plethora of good 3rd party games. If you look at the top 25 selling PS2 titles on this site Worldwide, only three of them are from Sony. I wouldn't say that is "a good mix" of first and third party titles.

This gen, Resistance, a Sony first party title, is the best selling, and the PS3 isn't doing good so far. They need to give third parties a kick in the pants since they are what made the PS2 what it was last gen.

Yeah I really don't believe them, perhaps this was true after selling a 100 million units, or even 50 million, when your the king and don't need to go out of your way. But right now it's hussle time. And honestly people bad mouth M$ but honestly how cool is it to own a system where the maker is dumping money on developers to bring you the most exclusive content. You can argue it's value to them, but either way it shows their determination. And I don't consider it bribing, they are paying money for a product, that's not illegal. Just like it's not illegal for them to buy studio after studio, I mean honestly Nintendo is probably the only company that has really added to the game world by schooling and educating programmers.

Yes Nintendo has schooled and educated programmers ,as it show that after Shigeru Miyamoto (who is there since the early 80s ) there are so many programmers with talent as ....and as .......well I dont remember anyone recently but for sure there must be tons programming games we dont see because some bizzarre reason  .....

They earned FFXIII and MGS4 exclusives with over 100 mln. psOne and PS2 owners. That`s fine with me. =)

One week left, and then glorious days for Sony will come. =)

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Did anyone else read this and think "Nintendo 64" right away? Just curious, because it sounds exactly like the attitude that lost it for Nintendo. Sony offered TONS of benefits to Square Enix and other 3rd party developers to get them over to the PSone.
