Forums - Sony - SCEA President: "We don't buy exclusivity."

In a not-very-disguised jab at Microsoft, SCEA President Jack Tretton told PSM in the latest issue:

"We have a very different approach to exclusives than some of our competitors. We don't buy exclusivity. We don't fund development. We don't, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform. We earn it..."

He went on to say...

"Microsoft is too dependent on the third-party community, and Nintendo is too depended on first-party. We like to feel that we got a pretty good mix."

Stupid thing to say. Time to start buying the exclusives Sony, if MS is doing it you should too.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Translation: We have a different approach to exlusives than some of our competitors. We hope to high hell our system sells lots of units and brings third parties to our side... And oh how high we hope!

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I think Jack's right.

Sony should´ve shut his mouth long ago...yeah right..."we earn it"....I´m not seeing this "earn it" anywhere, sounds like he´s bitter...he still owes me about 20 thousand bucks for all the PS3s I´ve seen on shelves..."we don´t buy exclusivity"....so,Sony didn´t pay for the GTAs on the PS2 to be timed exclusive?...doesn´t Sony get dizzy from all this spinning?

Tretton said that sony doesn't live off of third parties? What the hell is he smokin, because I want some.

It does, but it has a solid first party dev team too...Lair and God of War and such...

I don't think that statement was so bad...it doesn't really help Sony much though, because in my opinion, if Microsoft is buying exclusives, Sony should do the same.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

HEY IM BACK YESSSSSSSIRRRRR!!!! but yea i agree whats wrong with sony....they live off of third party games.....

Well sure Microsoft is buying exclusive games, and it hasn't put them in green yet. When Microsoft starts making money I might agree that it is a good idea.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

They do have a good balance but their problem is that their 3rd party games arn't as good as MS and their 1st party games arn't as good as Nintendo's...in general.
