NPD Numbers

Official numbers are in:

DS 608k
Wii 555k
Playstation 3 225k
PSP 222k
Xbox 360 205k
Playstation 2 155k

360 NCAA FOOTBALL 09 - 397.6K
WII FIT W/ BALANCE BOARD - 369.6K
NDS GUITAR HERO: ON TOUR - 309.7K
WII PLAY W/ REMOTE - 284K
PS3 NCAA FOOTBALL 09 - 242.5K
360 SOUL CALIBUR IV - 218.9K
WII MARIO KART W/ WHEEL - 174.5K
WII ROCK BAND SPECIAL ED BUNDLE - 165.8K
PS3 SOUL CALIBUR IV - 155.8K
360 SID MEIER'S CIVILIZATION REVOLUTION - 147.6K

So much for the 360 winning the USA last month. 20k under is such a small gap though it really doesnt make much difference.

I'm confused (big surprise).  I thought VGCharts tracked North American shipments and NPD tracked US sales.  Shouldn't the numbers be different?

Griffin this is a shorter month - Wii and 360 sales increased this month on a weekly basis. June was five weeks. July was four weeks.

Wii went from 133k/week in June to 139k/week in July

360 went from 44k/week in June to 51k/week in July

NPD June Wk Avg July Wk Avg
Wii 666,000 133,200 555,000 138,750
flat+
Xbox 360 219,800 43,960 204,800 51,200 up
PS3 405,500 81,100 224,900 56,225 down
DS 783,000 156,600 608,400 152,100
flat-
PSP 337,400 67,480 221,700 55,425 down
PS2 188,000 37,600 155,500 38,875
flat+

Thanks for the information.  Based on that new stuff, the 360 had a nice increase month over month, i would still expect August numbers to increase.  The wii also had a nice increase, a record setting Holiday for the wii just seems so far away right now.

Interesting numbers so Leo-j prediction that PS3 will not sell under 120k/week this year is still on and 360 have not outsold PS3 a single week this year?

so the ps3 managed to beat the 360 in july O.o

...awesome!

It is quite clear that the introduction of Jasper's has resulted in a decrease in demand for Xbox 360's and an increase in demand for the now hotter and louder PS3 as seasonal change brings about cooler temperatures.

So the 360 price drop effect isn't really there?

Price drops really helped the GameCube, now didn't they? :P

j/k

In all seriousness, this isn't good for the 360.  The Premium is generally MS' best selling SKU, as far as I am aware, and if it didn't gain a significant boost this past month, how will things look in September?  Sure, the Arcade and Elite will be cheaper as well, but assuming the Premium continues to sell the best, and assuming a $300 Premium then won't have much different results than a $300 Premium now, it doesn't look good.

Of course, this is assuming NPD's numbers are more accurate than ours, something I'm disinclined to believe after the GTA fiasco.

Finally, a voice of reason enters the thread.  I for one think that all the people with an emotional investment in the success of a console are sad, just sad.

No wonder.

 Consoles: Wii & PS3.

Ahahah, ownage Ps3 ftw!

Total software sales: 591.1M
Total Xbox360 software sales: 129M
Total Playstation software sales: 183.6M

So that puts Nintendo software sales close to 278.5M minus some sales from the original Xbox and even older systems. Still total Nintendo sales is probably in the 260-270M range, which means they're really dominating software sales without any big new releases.

I seriously hope ioi will adjust numbers, because thats totally different of vgc estimates :s
