Forums - Gaming - Labelling players as "casual" is wrong - Slam Games

"Saying somebody's a casual player is doing them a disservice, because there are people playing Bejewelled for twelve hours in a go - I wouldn't have ever played a game for more than a couple of hours in one go, so I think the terms are maybe mistaken somewhat.

"I think it's more the style of game - something you can sit down and play in chunks, rather than having to sit down for three hours to play the next chapter of the game, whatever that it."

I think there's a huge problem with defining gaming audiences right now I don't think it's as simple as the casual or hardcore gamer , gamers aren't that simple neither are games.

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Oh snap.

I have a friend that's not into gaming at all, well at least console gaming. He plays an online game called Travian a lot at the moment. Many hours of the day. Is it casual when you play one game hardcore...ish.

Hmm, pie.

Casual gamers are just gamers that play simple games that hardcore gamers will not play, like a hardcore player.

Agreed. I want to punch people who propogate these retarded terms.

Plus most "hardcore" gamers today are anything but what a "hardcore" follower of a hobby is typically like (think of a movie or history buff). It's just a way for the "in" people to derride simple, actually fun games, instead of games with billion dollar budgets that are all the same.

Boom Blox and Zack & Wiki are labeled "casual" by a lot of people, but I've been gaming since Atari and both of those are more fun than anything I've played in the last couple years.

@kira hibiki: Retards?

@Topic: If we think at terms "casual" and "hardcore", all we end up with two terms which describe a gamers gaming (bolded for Rubang to read) habits. When you at the forums all around the web, you'll notice that only rare people even try to use the terms correctly.

I'm a casual gamer= I play games every now and then.
I'm a hardcore gamer= I play games constantly.

Ei Kiinasti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Yeah, no kidding. I have a friend who 6 months ago I would've had no qualms describing as casual. Now I beat her at Mario Kart at least 40% of the time, some days I even push the 50% mark.

Oh, and it turns out she's a closet MGS fan - so don't be too quick to judge casualz :P

Not really more like having too much time to burn and want something that is addictive, more like dinner rush and stuff where they can play casually but like a hardcore when they reach the later stages. I lost to my mom at dinner rush when we hit the higher levels and even thought she is a "causal game' she can own me who is a so called 'hardcore gamer'.
