Probably so will verses.
@ Topic: Saleswise, where it does matter. XIII will blow away verses. A lot is in a name, when it comes to marketing. Square knows it.
It is very likely all of Square-Enix's games will eventually go multiplat. The likely reason, as if FFXIII wasn't enough evidence, is to recover costs. Square has announced Verses13 as a "worldwide" PS3 exclusive. "Worldwide" indicating a launch window. Suspicious wording, that indicates a later launch window for the 360 perhaps? Timed exclusivity is as we all know, accompanied with NDA's and isn't worth a dime if Square can just come out and say, "Hey it's not exclusive." They're trying to keep an appearance of equality between the consoles. That's why it's very likely that the 360 JRPGs will be announced as multiplats around the same time as the PS3 JRPGs.
That said, Verses13 is relatively unrelated to XIII. You don't need to play both to enjoy one, anymore than you need to play FF:Tactics to enjoy FFXII. Also, if Verses13 was chosen for multi instead if XIII, PS3 fans was severely marginalize the game and play up the XIII name, like they have tried to marginalize XIII.
Nothing can "backfire," about MS stealing PS3's biggest exclusive. It's all win. 100 percent. No downside.
Having the main game in a series is much better than having none at all, and having the main game in the series is much better than having the alternative, at this point, and forever, unless the alternative proves itself to be a better game, years from now. If you're calling FFVerses13 the "real" FFXIII you're just kidding yourself. If 360 had gotten Verses instead you would find such an implication laughable.
FFXIII was Microsoft's epic win. For a time, Verses is your consilation.
How in a Sony fanboy's mind, its "years off" release makes up for the immediate release of several big JRPGs exclusive to the 360 and the loss of FFXIII as an exclusive, I have no idea.
It seems like someone gave you a diamond ring after they broke your teeth out, and all you can do is lisp about how it was totally worth it...even though the diamond ring was already yours to begin with.
