dammmm...wat the hell happened to GRAN TURISMO ????
SACKBOY is not bad though.....
but GRAN TURISMO would have so great instead ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

First of all, Gran Turismo is a car game. Second,  LBP will never reach the sales of even GT. It doesn't deserve to be spouted at the mouth in the same sentence really.

Solid Snake is the only real mascot for Sony this gen IMHO.

Can't it be both =)

We will see, wont we?

People purchase games so they can relate and fall into the storylines of interesting characters, not create their own version of him. This is a fad, just like home. We will see in the future how well this game does. I will not assume but I wont say that it will be earth shattering. No no no, I can guarantee to you all that it will not be earth shattering.

you just assumed it was a fad, aren't you contradicting yourself in the same paragraph?

Regardless, you might be right that people relate to storylines of interesting characters, but I don't think that is necessary for a mascot. Because a mascot is mainly a tool to bring in new people, and they wouldn't know the story anyway.

I would suggest however that there are games that have been successful with no or next to no story. If you truly look at it, what kind of a story did the original Mario games have? I think that most people played the game because it was fun, and not because they direly needed to see what happened in the story.

Also, could you atleast compare LBP's fadness to something that's actually out and was seen to be a fad, just saying it's a fad like another Sony enterprise that you think will be a fad doesn't prove anything.

First of all I did not contradict myself. I've always maintained that i'm not sure of this game until I see sales, and to say it is a fad is my opinion, because the game hasn't been  properly tested and yet I STILL maintain that belief.

That is necessary for a mascot to have a relatable story while having great gameplay mechanics. It also must be one of the top selling games on the system and the reason to people buy the system within the first party to be a true mascot.

Marios story became known from manuals and cartoons that came out on tv for him. Super mario 3 and world took the storyline to another level and set the pace for the games that came after.

I wont indulge you with a fad comparison, but I will tell you this as I am watching the olympics with the family. If LBP doesn't sell up to par Molecule is in deep trouble.

Does Sony own the IP? If yes, I think it is a great idea, otherwise...
