It's bigger than you think. Mascots are sales stamps for respective systems. They are flag bearers. If LBP turns out having sub par sales, Sony is going to treat the developer like crap. Master Chief to Xbox 360,  The heap of Nintendo mascots and now this?

I think sony needs two mascots...SackBoy is great, but having Kratos or a Helghast sniper on commercials / posters for more 'mature' games would be cool.

Does anyone remember when Microsoft tried to make "Blinx" the cat their mascot? Not a crack at Sackboys, but that was hilarious!

Anyways, I'm sure LittleBigPlanet will do well so that's a fine choice.

unless mario is god is a bad use of the word... but funny nonetheless.

i think sackboy is a god choice, they can pick up any previews known sony only chars like snake, kratos, GT

and put them all other in sackboy forms.

They should have a sackboy for every game. When the God of War III trailers end they should have the kratos sackboy next to the PS3 emblem. Same with Killzone 2, FFXIII, Resistance 2, etc. Have a special character for every game.

 

That would be awesome!

At the end of a MotorStorm 2 commercial, they could have the Evel Knievel sackboy riding a LBP car around the PlayStation 3 logo.  Or at the end of the Killzone 2 commercials, they coul have the Helghast sackboy standing by the logo.  And when the God of War III commercials start airing, have Kratos smacking stuff around.

Maybe they could do exclusive marketing deals with third parties as well.  Imagine an RE5 commercial with a zombie sackboy (whose arms are sticking straight out) meandering about at the end, and then a Chris sackboy that walks out and smacks the zombie sackboy across the screen.

This is what I imagine Sony will do. As long as they produce a line of plush toys, this could be huge.
