Forums - Nintendo - Apparently, the Wii can play DVDs

No nintendo seems to have ignor... never mind they did... wait... man.. I remember now!

No Nintendo never did, I remember at N4G a serious and credible game journalist made a article about free loader and homebrew being made obsolete then at the end he said he was joking.

Aside from that no.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The only thing stopping nintendo from doing an update is the licensing costs and the reliablity due to stress on the laser.

Wait, people bother to watch movies at home? ;)

^ Its still the 'Present' rather than Blu-ray which is 'future'.

And it's not even clear that Blu-ray is the future. There's still potential for it to be remembered as merely an amusing side-show between real generations.

only one version of the Wii is movie compatible. Unless this console is that Japanese version it was hacked.

Well, it looks like every version is capable of doing movie playback. Joystiq has a tutorial on how to install it all. The only thing you need is a SD card and Twilight Princess... But I'm not giving the link (just to be sure)!

didnt Nintendo fix that loophole in an update?

Nope, hack still works fine apparently.  Come on Nintendo, just release this as a firmware update.

Bold = correct.

Underlined = incorrect.

All current model lasers are DVD spec.  No one manufactures low spec'ed lasers anymore because there is no market for them.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

If you want to know what the twilight hack is, you can always look the article on wikipedia . I fail to see the point of the homebrew channel or the DVD playback. Everybody has a DVD player nowadays... That was precisely Nintendo's point. Nintendo isn't really fighting against the homebrew community because they can't play backup game so it's of no use to pirates.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

 yeah exactly, kinda like the laserdisc was back when cd's came out. yes the players sold some kinda like blueray but never really caught on as an alternative to watch your movies. also laserdiscs had the same problem that blue ray does. the discs were costly, even though they looked great on tv and the players were just as costly to play the discs.

*EDIT: Oh wait... what do you mean by backup games?

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

And the thing that sucks is that the wii cant play movie files on the photo channel even your able to cram it in a SD Card and conveted with the wii video (i tried watching Jackass The Movie) 9.
