Has the neglect at E3 really neutered expectations this far? I cannot understand how anyone can be excited by the three titles from SOE the virtual pariah of online gaming. I will not go further, but hundreds of thousand of gamers have a psychotic level of hatred for the developer. Mostly due to underhanded stunts and poor production values. Were these titles to actually be noteworthy it would be incredible given the developers track record. I can honestly say the only noteworthy MMO coming to consoles has to be Huxley, and it is only noteworthy in that it is also a First Person shooter with hundreds of players online. Infamous is ten months away, and Prototype should come out in the same time frame. Little Big Planet comes this fall, and if you plan to get it another showing will not mean much to you. Killzone 2, and Resistance 2 are known commodities. Home is probably still a long way off. Then you have Motorstorm a sequel to a decent title not an outstanding one. So all told this is very much old hat. I fully agree Heavy Rain will be something to look at, but that is really the only high point of the list. Seeing this list no wonder Microsoft does not feel a pressing need to even have a conference. Hell why Nintendo doesn't even feel a need to be at the event. I really hope Sony has more to offer then this. This is not so much a taste as it is the last events leftovers. Before anyone says bashing I want Sony to show more, because that means this show will be relevant. Right now as it stands the last relevant show was in what February. I was hoping that Microsoft and Sony would show some real motion with this event. Those dozen announcements are sounding a little hollow now. I really want a reason to be interested in this event. |
I think there r two things u r missing... first Sony has changed its strategy which Sony new boss outlined in some interview that they will only be releasing information when they r much near to release like 6 months before release... which i believe is a very right decission as games have lot of uncertainities and relasing information about them so far early in the development cycle is simple going to give rise to lot of negative rumours.
So i expect all of these games which they r going to show r going to be released within 6 months time frame.. maybe apart from God Of War 3.
Secondly i think they need to create hype for the games which r going to release in the fall then showing games which r going to be released in 2010... R2, M2, Home beta 2 is going to come around fall, LBP is coming in fall... so definitely i feel its the right strategy to awe people with the games that r just around the corner... instead of games too far down the line... i feel people r more angry to Sony cuz previously they were discussing things which were too far down the line and still they have not released them... and this led to frustration..
Anyway difference of opinion is perfectly acceptable..
good list, im really looking forward to dc online and the agency both should be good mmo`s
