Forums - Sales - What the heck is happening in Others?

Okay, so the last two months, I've been reading a lot of posts about Ps3 doing good in Others, and that it might overtake Wii. I've actually believed this, and been content that my console might take the lead in an area.

For the 3rd Q of 2007, Ps3 wasn't doing to well. Wii had 50.1% Market share. Ps3 only had 23.6%, behind X360 which had 26.2%.

But in 4th Q, Ps3 strook back hard. Wii was down to 43.2%, only slightly ahead of Ps3 at 35.3%, which again anhilated X360 at a sole 21.4%.

Awesome news for the Ps3, expected news for the X360, and bad news for the Wii - it was now not a lot ahead of Ps3.

In Q1 '08, Wii dipped even further, down to 42.1%. Ps3 remained steady at 35.2%, and X360 saw a slight increase up to 22.6%.

Good for Ps3, it wasn't just because of the holiday it was better - the Ps3 increase was there to stay. Overtaking Wii wasn't far away.

But in Q2, things started to look a bit grimmer.

Wii had 47.7%, Ps3 dipped harshly down to 30.3%, and X360 stayed at 22%

And it gets worse.

Look at the last 2 months.

Wii is at 54.6%, Ps3 at half - 27.04%, and X360 at 18.5%.

For the last month, Wii is at 57.1%. Ps3 is at only 25.1%, and X360 at 17.8%

So instead of becomming the best selling in Others Ps3 has lost 1/3 of its relative market share, and is now smaller than half of Wii.

Awesome...

Blame Wii Fit.

I blame Wii Fit, and I blame it seriously.

I blame Mario Kart.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

It's Mario Kart and the fact that Nintendo is actually meeting demand in others. The PS3 will never, ever catch the Wii in others, that's obvious, just as the PS3 will never catch the Wii in Japan or in the US.

As Nintendo increases production to meet demand, expect Wii sales to increase. Once demand is met, the Wii will continue to increase in sales for a while. This happened in Europe and it will happen in the US as well.

Who cares if the Wii is crushing the PS3 in the PS3's strongest territory?

its because of low stock.
PS3 will rebound back 2 where it was, but i highly doubt it can pass the wii. maybe in the distant future, but not now.

Nope.

There's no stock shortage in Europe/Others.  Read some threads.

Nintendo has had its big software releases (the triad of WiiFit, MKWii, and SSBB). Also, it appears to be able to meet the hardware demand.

Meanwhile, Sony hardware also may have slowed with rumors and now plans for new models.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Europe is the most casual of the markets and Wii is the most casual of the consoles. Sony made a major misstep in trying to fight MS on the core side while ignoring Nintendo on the casual side.

Nintendo has never done great in Europe (Sega owned it before Sony) but Wii is going to dominate this region just like the DS.
