Exactly...It fits more into the category of FPS then action-adventure.

Metroid Prime is not a shooter.  There are more than just shooting in Metroid Prime, there are elements like Morph Ball mazes, platform jumping, and puzzle solving.  And I say these elements are more than 50% of the gameplay experience.

Your first sentence contradicts your second...Take a look yourself.

http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/action/metroidprime/index.html

Once again, I'm going to say that it's a first-person adventure game with shooting elements.  It's kinda like how Zelda is a third-person adventure with RPG elements.  Also I played this game less than 48 hours ago so I doubt I need a gamespot review.

The sentence in bold proves that indeed it is a FPS. Secondly do you recall me saying anything about it just been FPS?Yes your right, I'm wrong including Gamespot.

Yes, you and Gamespot are wrong.  It's not a FPS.  This has been substantiated for years.   Gamespot simply doesn't have a FPA category in their CMS.

By your accounts, Duck Hunt is a FPS.

Take a look at the bold. By your account Wikipedia is wrong, Ign is wrong, etc...

If you've ever played Metroid Prime, it's clear that it's not a first person shooter. The game does contain many shooting elements, but at its core it is a First Person Adventure. The atmosphere and adventure elements of the game overall outweigh (and contribute to) the shooting.

I think that all the sites you have listed simply don't have a first person adventure category, as it is not a very popular genre (Metriod Prime, Elder Scrolls and ...?).

I didnt really mean the Wiimote by that. I mean new engines and all that good stuff.

Any game I think can work well in Third-Person. The development team just needs to do it right. Thats basically what Im saying.

@Sam Yiku
Who the F#*$ is Shigero Miyamoto??? :P Well I didnt know that my bad.

@EVERYONE ELSE
THE REASON I SAID "If it works for zelda why cant it work with Metroid?" IS BECAUSE chasmatic12 POST!
I KNOW HOW DIFFERENT THERE ARE DAMMIT. DONT TELL ME BECAUSE OF THIS AND THAT.

Shigeru Miyamoto is Nintendo's (and arguably the world's) top game designer. He has created Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Star Fox (maybe), and Pikmin. He was the lead designer of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, widely called the best game ever created.

He has recently been the driving force behind some of Nintendo's most successful games, such as Wii Fit, Super Mario Galaxy, and Nintendogs.

Oh crap. I was just messing around dude I know exactly who Shigero Miyamoto is. I though the little :P would tell you I was just messing around. My bad about that.

@Viper

We were both wrong. Its considered an action game by Nintendo themselves.

Valkyria00, Read my post and you'll understand why it won't work.

MP has too many in your face aspects that would be obscured by the character herself. Scanning, which is a very huge game element, would be awkward in 3rd person.

Not to mention the entire HUD, visor system, aiming system, and again the scanning system all rely on a 1st person perspective.

Going into 3rd person would completely change these elements.

Yes but thats because youre just used to playing it that way. What if it went Third-Person and did something completly different and made the game just as enjoyable and fun?

Damn.....didnt explaing that too well. OK Im not saying I want Prime to be Third-Person it is what it is and you all love it which is fine.

What I want is Third-Person Metroid. If the First-Person gameplay doesnt work than change it entirely to work for third person. If scanning wont work change it and make something new.

@vald321
No thats not even close to what im saying/

That's just the thing, it DOES work in 1st person.  Better than just about any other 1st person perspective title I've ever played.

Going 3rd person loses a whole lot of ambience.  You're no longer the character in 3rd person but become simple a puppet master.    You're also changing a whole lot of gameplay mechanics.   I'm not saying they wouldn't be good but soem of those elements cannot be replaced in 3rd person simply because of the nature of those two perspectives.

Except it wouldn't. As I explained in my post above, making the game first person allowed it to do a lot that third person would simply not have allowed, nearly all of it key to the greatness of the game.

What you suggest later in the post (deleted to focus reply) would be an idea for a future Metroid game, but for Prime, First Person was the right choice.

Ratings mean nothing. Id rather play Pokemon Snap then GTAIV :P

Review ratings are an accumulation of opinions from people who have actually played the game or games. I'd say it means a tad more than a single person's opinion who refuses to play the games because of some hangup.

Reviews are all one persons opinion.:P

Hang ups? What do you mean?

Reviews(plural) are many people's opinions. A review is a single person's opinion. If a game is said to be one of the highest rated games ever, I think it's pretty obvious that's referring to accumulated review scores, like at gamerankings.com.

Hangups was referring to your hangup over games in the first person perspective. I'm not particularly a fan of first person games, but I wouldn't say I'm a particular fan of games played with a third person perspective either. Shooter-type games are generally played the same, whether in third or first person. Metroid Prime is an exception because of the visor features in the game. Given that visors play such a crucial role in the Prime games, it wouldn't make much sense for it to be a third person perspective-only game.

Good enough engines to build a 3D Metroid in third person view were already available during the 6th generation of consoles. Today's engines really aren't that different to the ones from five years ago, save for physics. *EDIT: That's in regards to effects on gameplay.*

Your entire argument is "I want third person view, because I don't like first person view". So far you haven't pointed out a single gameplay element of Metroid that would work better in third person view. All you say is that it's up to developers to make things work.

Because thats who it comes down to. Im not gonna make the game and the hell do I know how a Third-Person Metroid should play. Ive never played Metroid enough to tell you that.

If all the First-Person elements dont work in the Third-Person than throw them out the window and start from scratch and build something for Third-Person.

@Sam Yikin
Exactly! I think people are confused for what I was saying. Some think I want prime to be third-person. Thats not what I want. In my reply to Viper1 I say it. Prime is what it is. Id like a new Metroid to be in 3rd person.

@quigontcb
*sigh* I dont care what other people think which is why game reviews hardly mean anything. Some games I love people think are terrible. Its all an opinion.
