Forums - Gaming - Game Informer: Too Human Review! 6.5

I did not expect Too Human to receive good review scores. Scores ranging from 4 to 7 for a mediocre game is expected.

I would caution the Sony Defense Forces to be wary of premature boasting. This title has seen mixed sentiment from the media. This score may simply account for the lower ebb of that sentiment. So while you are thinking four to seven. The range may very well be six to nine. Nobody was positive about Haze in the media, but some in the media are decrying low balling this game.

By wary of proclaiming this title the Haze of the 360, because if it ends up averaging out well over a seven or even close to an eight. Well it only highlights the disparity of the quality between the 360 and the PS3 when it comes to the gaming library. You are basically saying that on the 360 the bar is set higher. When you consider a near seven on the 360 mediocre your really saying that, because the 360 has so many highly rated titles a seven is just not good enough. While you are implying that on the PS3 such a title is above average.

Honestly I expect the title to score well over a seven when averaged out. Perhaps not universally acclaimed, but hardly universally derided. The way in which Haze was with an average score on Metacritic of 55. To me the Haze of the 360 was Circle of Doom which also averaged a 55. The reason this was not recognized was, because 360 owners were more then happy with their upcoming selection. The title was not for them going to fill a gaping void.

Anyway almost being a seven isn't necessarily a bad or mediocre game. More along the lines of average to slightly below average. So the magazine was not saying the game was bad. Just that they did not think it was good, great, or fantastic.

Starcraft and selnor will both be fuming seeing how low review scores Too Human will receive. Any game that scores below 80% in my books has bombed regarding review scores.

"That is low. I find it funny how when Lair and Haze got bad reviews, it's OK because it's a PS3 game so the reviewer isn't wrong the game is just bad, yet when it's a hyped up 360 game, if it gets a low grade, the reviewer is wrong/biased/horrible at his job and should lose his job. Don't get me started on what it would be like for a hyped up Nintendo game..."

I couldn't have said it better myself. Funny ain't it?

The reason a lot of people are shocked is because they've already gone through the demo and liked it. This questioning isn't taken out of thin air. The demo sure didn't feel like some 6.75 game, so unless it takes a big turn for the worse somewhere else in the game, there is a chance this review isn't accurate to what the majority will think of the game. Pichu just said higher up in the thread that they gave Elite Beat Agents a 6.75 also, and that right there is absolute blasphemy.

With Haze and Lair, PS3 owners came into this thread to confirm the game was garbage, so it wasn't pulled out of thin air then either.

yeah,GI does give some weird reviews

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

Alot of people before hand talked about how this game was going to be one of those type of games where you like it or hate it kind of thing no middle ground. We will have to see whenmore reviews come in if this is the case. I loved the demo and I intend to buy the game. This does get me thinking though on one of the things I love this gen about my ps3 and 360 and that is all the demos you can play before hand so you can make your own choice about the game.

So much hype for nothing.

What if you put that demo on a loop, and the game was basically that demo played though 10 times?

I hear the major knock on this game, is repetition. It's hard to get a feel for how bad that is in a demo.

Look, Final Fantasy XII got a metascore of 92 and it was definitely the most repetitive game of all time. I still played the heck out of it though!

Hmm, imo, the game deserved that score, but that's kinda off topic.

Again, I think most people expected this game to flop. Did everyone somehow miss the bad previews from every website, and the vast amount of hate this got from GAF, and virtually every website on the planet.

I mean, I guess you could use this games reviews to rub in the face of really hardcore Xboxers, but I honestly don't think anyone has this game as a top 360 exclusive this year. I may be wrong.

I don't think this game was hyped, lol.

I just gave the demo a shot (been on vacation) and the game's a mixed bag. The worst is the combat and camera... it basically boils down to repeating the same 4 combat movements (which are the same for all character classes) over and over to build up the combo meter which you deplete using your class special skills (of which there aren't that many to begin with, most of the skills are passives).

I'll give it another run today but I'm feeling unlike Bioware's Mass Effect they didn't get the balance right between the action and the rpg sides of combat.

To be honest, I really enjoy roguelikes and was so looking forward to Too Human turning decent enough.
