So he is including the sales of the PS2 and PSP, and seeing massive increases in sales for both peices of hardware even though they're in the final stages of their life ...

I've read this article three times, each time looking for stuff that you think I missed. I know what Deering is saying:

Wii+DS=PS2+PS3+PSP by 2011.

I know that the article isn't about competition, but the media has done a lot to keep Nintendo out of the "race." Watch G4 or read Game Informer. They're both HD heaven. Comparing Sony sales to Nintendo is a little unexpected, I suppose.
