If it wasn't for the PS3 the format would already be long dead so I'm not sure how anyone can really complain.

Hah I never noticed that. I think it's a good thing though. The PS3 is the best Blu Ray player around IMO. The biggest advantage (aside from games and all things related to games) the PS3 gives you is access to the internet in order to download new software that you may need in order to play newer movies. I know some first generation Blu Ray players will not be able to play new movies but you will never have that problem with the PS3.

They don't own Blu-ray. They own around 30% of the IP.  So they own under a third of blu-ray.

@ Kaz , i'm starting to notice many of your posts are very anti-Sony , at least mix it up a little bit to apear to be neutral.

I think that the PS3's position can be largley attributed to cost's of which can largley be attributed to the blu-ray technology inside the PS3 , they sacrificed their strong hold over the gaming industry in exchange for the optical format standard. Let's hop e for their sakes that the sacrifice pays off.

I don't think it's an underserved advantage it's likely there'd be no blu-ray players to compete against had it not been for the PS3.

It lets more people know that the PS3 can play Bluray's. Spreading the message is always a good way to help sales!

I was agreeing with Obieslut that if it wasn't for the PS3 Blu-ray would of been screwed isn't that giving Sony credit?

Furthermore instead of it being a complete bust like Betamax, I was saying it would be something that would keep going after the format war was over. While Betamax eventually died out well before DVDs. Laserdisc survived on until after DVDs took control of the format.

Also it was clearly superior to VHS unlike Betamax which was more tied then anything.

You want something good about Sony? The Playstation 2 ruled and was the best system of it's generation, so was the playstation 1. I have both and they rule.

I like the PSP lite dozens of times more then the DS slim.

I also plan to buy a Playstation 3 and a PSP in the future when i get bored with games I can get on current consoles i own.

I'd also say there is about an 80% chance that my favorite game of this generation will be Valkria Chronicles.  A PS3 exclusive.

Likely you see me anti-sony soley as a reflection of your own bias... that's generally what happens when someone with bias goes off someone working from solid fact.

Blu-ray did beat HD-DVD, it always was going to beat HD-DVD, however Blu-ray disc adoption rates are lagging WAY behind DVD adoption rates...(less then half of what DVD was at this time) so it still is very much in the air whether
or not it will catch on as the next format, or whether it will be a "luxuary format" much like Laserdisc was.

Laserdisc made a lot of money, Just not as much as they wanted.

YO kas betamax is not vhs. Betamax was a failed format that sony launched for video tapes. It competed against vhs and lost. As for the ps3 having an advatage how is that not fair. If it wasn't a better blue ray player it wouldn't be worth buying in my opinion. PS3 doesn't have many exclusives anymore and costs more than the other consoles.
