Forums - Nintendo - Actual Wii buying audience research?

I cant find any but would like to know just how many grandmas, moms, parents and traditional gamers are buying the Wii? Since theres a ton of propaganda i would like to know how full of shit these companies are, or arn't.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

The rule of thumb is to just assume they're all full of shit, and you'll be right about 99% of the time.

Everyone knows that 40% of Wii owners are over 50, with the other 60% are under 10.

Nintendo actually released graphs about it a while back. I think the result was that Wii had a lot of players in all demographcis because more people per household would use it.

In otherwords those Mom's and Grandma's often were just playing their kids console.

Doesn't work for my Aunt though.  To my knowledge she sticks with her 360.

A year ago Nintendo claimed 90% of Wii auduence had owned a 6th gen console befre buying a Wii, true it will have changed now because the "blue ocean" gamers will have had more chance to pick up a Wii..... but I imagine it's still at least 80% of Wii owners have owned a 6th gen console, and at least 90% would actually be considered gamers (ie game on PC, or on ANY past console, not just 6th gen)

so roughly 10% of current Wii owners, that's 3 million, will be "new gamers" which of course then has to be split into whatever categories you want rearding age, sex and parental status.

You would actually assume MS and Sony would come up with some demographic breakdowns. This whole PS2 migration to PS360 theory is obviously crapolas so wheres the stats.

- If MS can pop out 3rd party sales stats 2 days after Nin. does stats, why not in this case.

True, after all if 24 million Wii owners owned a 6th gen system, I am pretty positive a good chunk of them were PS2 only owners.

In my opinion one of the main problems with trying to determine who the "Audience" for the Wii is, is that the Wii is (probably) far more likely to be used quite heavily by multiple people in a household. If Jimmy the teenage hard-core gamer, sally his teenage sister, billy his younger brother, his mother and his father all use the Wii who is part of the "Audience" that is buying the Wii ...

In a lot of ways this is why, despite people's comments that Wii owners buy less games, the Wii has had as high of software sales per system as their competition.

^True... my sister wants me to buy (or go halves) on Wii Fit.

(It wouldn't be practical without a 2nd Wii though, as there is no floor space in my room for it, and karting the Wii up and downstairs is a hassle)
