This just happened recently. But the my ps3 has been freezing up again and again. When I play COD4, it loses sound first, then it freezes. When i play other games, it just freezes up. Whats going on. It happens after an hour of play, but recently the playtime has been shortening to around  2games of COD4. Someone tell me whats going on. I've had my ps3 for a year. And this has never happened before till now. HELP!!!

All i can suggest is heat. Is it well ventilated and have you cleaned the vents recently? sorry i cant be more help

It would probably be a good idea to turn the thing off for a while. It may be overheating. (at least, that's what it sounds like. Mine did the same thing before it crashed from overheating)

Mine did the same thing, but it was in a confined space so I brought it out in the open and I never had that problem again.

1. Have you recently updated your PS3?  Look under system and see what version you're at.
2. Does this only happen on CoD4?
3. Is your PS3 in a well ventilated area?

If your DVD's, PS2 games, and PS1 games work fine, and this is only happening to PS3 games.... then your having the same prob as me. It slowly freezed a few times on GTA4... then games would freeze on first load screen... then they would give me an error code. One that I looked up and couldn't find a fix for. One person said that it mite be installing EU firmare on an US console, I updated directly from the ps3 afterwords [waited 1 day for 2.42 to be released] and it didn't help. Am sending my console in soon....

I have heard the latest update for the PS3(version 2.42 I think) did this to a limited amount of PS3's. Like twestern before have you recently updated your PS3?
