Well you could argue that both vgchartz and NPD are "anecdotal" in that they aren't actually complete numbers. They are relaying numbers from what's told by certain retailers and extrapolating results based on a few sources.

If the anecdotes are from pretty reliable posters like kn, then ok. When they aren't reliable is when little 12 year old fanboys make crap up.

OT: I am amazed at how well Soul Calibur sold on the 360, especially after folks said the PS3 version would outsell it.

 

Frys has a TON of cool stuff.  Stay out of there unless you are made of money.  Stick to their deals, though, because they aren't always the cheapest (or even often).  A good example of deal I got was a Microsoft Wireless Mouse/Keyboard combo for 89.95.  It is the 7000 series and they normally sell it for $129.  That was a great deal...  I also picked up a 320 Gig SATA II Western Digital for $60.  You should check out their ads and stick with that...

You certainly can't track amazon for sales or demand, however Ebay and Amazon are certainly a fair indication of supply.

Well my local Fred has been out of 40 GB for the last month. They even got in 80gb Metal Gear Solid one and it was quickly sold, as they normally only stock 40gb, so the 40gb must be no longer in the warehouse since they are not getting replenish.

My local Best Buys (3 stores) are all sold out of 40gb, they have several 80gb however. Target is also the same way in my area, only 80gb Metal Gear bundle are available. (and they tend to sold quickly).

Only 360 that seems to be sold out is the 20gb $299.00 sku. With all the leak about price drop in a month I think both 360 and PS3 will have pretty low number for the month of August. For the first time in a very long time, I saw about 5-6 Wii at Best Buy.
