Due to my lock of my first thread from Montana (my fault for forgetting rule # 4), I want to try again.

Mario Kart Wii has been selling a LOT, no doubt. Mario Karts have always had legs no doubt, but did anyone really expect such high sales and long legs from the lowest rated Mario Kart ever? Look, Mario Kart had over 90,000 this week in Others alone, and it's been out since early April. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think it was a mix of the casual audience, and the Wheel, and "Mario" Casuals are eating up this bridge game like it was breakfeast cereal, becase of the Weel making it friendly to everyone and its pick up and play game. Also, core gamers like this because of Mario, and online is sophisticated for the Wii.

Anyone agree, or have different theorys?

Oh they'll run out of marioboys soon enough.


It's really the lowest rated ever? What a load of crap. More evidence that game reviewers are out of touch with reality.

My only problem with it is the lack of an option for classic Battle mode, with one life and no stupid teams. Other than that, I love this game!

I still haven't gotten it...not sure if it's worth the money.

Pointing one's finger at reviewers is far easier than pointing one's finger at the game itself.

it is my favorite mario kart ever, i didn't like mkdd, i preferred diddy kong racing over mario kart 64, i liked the original though, the online in mkwii is one of the best experience you can have on wii, i am not surprised its selling so well the game can be enjoed by hardcores and casuals.

It's gonna keep selling. People don't buy MKWii because they love mario: they buy it because they've played Wii Sports to death and want a new experience, and there's this other game with a crazy wheel that you move just like a real steering wheel! (Which is the same 'reality' technique that made Wii Sports so successful).

Interesting note: According to VGCharts, last week MKWii sold 163K world wide, higher than GTA4 for PS3 and 360 combined. (39K and 35K respectively.) It's already outsold the both versions individually world wide. This is the true power of nintendos strategy. It's not selling awful 'casual' games to non-traditional gamers, but slowly moving those non-traditional gamers upmarket to more and more sophisticated games, selling all the while.

This is definitely the best Mario Kart game ever released. It's simply the most fun and has the most replayability.

I guess reviewers are reviewing something other than "how good of a game is this" when measured by "how much fun does this game give me."  In my book, it's the best Mario Kart, no questions.  And everyone I've played it with says exactly the same thing.  Maybe you've never played it.

I'm actually expecting it to be the most sold game this year (thinking it could be before playing it, after playing for the first time, i know it will).

As Rubang said, the reviewer are out of touch with reality (the most underrated game this gen). Due to online, i'd say MKW is the best Mario Kart so far. The only reason it got rated so low is because the lack of snaking (which sucked anyway).

It's a great game for newcomers and veterans, it's easy to pick up and play, while it offers more to choose from than any other Mario Kart so far, with very sophisticated gameplay mechanics and well thought tracks.
So the reason it sells, is because Nintendo has thought everyone with this game. Even my (soon to be) 3 and 4 yo kids can play and enjoy this, while me, played Mario Karts since the first one, still find new and more "hardcore" features from this game.

It deserves to be unstoppable, and I think it's driving hardware sales too.
