Yeah, White Knight Story is a definite, no question PS3 exclusive. It's not like DMC4, where they said stuff like: "At this time, Devil May Cry 4 is being developer for the Playstation 3. Right now." Instead, it's "This game is exclusive to the Playstation 3, and we're happy to be using only this console for our game." Big difference in Business speak :p

Otherwise, I disagree. Lots of games have switched platforms and done well (or better): Metal Gear as well as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, the other major Square properties. BOTH of those SE properties have switched platforms (in the case of DQ, multiple times) and done quite well. I'm not arguing that switching can't be bad (it can), but given Square's recent remarks, and given the current lay of the land, I think it's unlikely that a console that's sold 2/5 the number of systems and 1/4 the number of games as the Wii is likely to be the right choice, especially as those gaps are growing, not shrinking.

 


*sigh* I'm not talking about WKS! I'm talking about Terra, Aqua, and Ven's story in KH.

Actually, 360 is a possibility. We're not talking Dragon Quest here. Look at these figures:

As you can see, the bulk of Kingdom Heart's sales have come from Europe and America (over 75 percent). Compare this to Dragon Quest:

Where something like, oh, 90-95 percent of sales come from Japan. If Square was to put ANY of their franchises on the 360, it would be Kingdom Hearts, as it's the most Western-leaning franchise they have. They have spoken openly of spreading the love this generation -- not focusing on Sony, but dividing their efforts amongst all three consoles -- and if 360 really is going to get significantly more development from SE than the original Xbox did, Kingdom Hearts is basically the only major franchise they have that could reasonably fit into the 360's demographic.

"Not likely" I can agree with. I think the Wii is more likely, but I don't think the 360 is completely impossible. I'd say it's... oh... a 10 percent chance that the game will go to the 360. I pulled that number out of my butt, by the way.

I think the new Kingdom Hearts series could take a similar path as Final Fantasy XIII. Several games across multiple Platforms. Most likely Wii, DS and PS3. It makes sense as it would alow them to have the PS3 game as a blue sky project (this is improtant to some devs) while they make a ton of money off the Wii and DS games. I can't see it appearing on teh 360 as Squeenix and Sony have quite a close working relationship.

Knight's story is most likely appearing on the PS3.

Off topic. Does anyone else think it is uncanny the fact that the £ is on the 3 key so if I don't release shift when typing PS3 i type PS£?

KH3 for Wii

Knights Story for PS3. Maybe multiplat if sales keep sucking.

I'd say the Wii is actually more likely than you're giving it credit for (which sounds like a good thing for you). Read this article:

The relevant text: "The article also repeats press reports concerning Square Enix, now a strong supporter of Nintendo formats, which suggests that the publisher will not develop any new titles for the PlayStation 3 until sales improve."

We had a long discussion about this in the forums last week, but the general consensus was that the games currently in development (those being Final Fantasy XIII, XIII Versus, and Last Remnant) are still a go, but everything else on PS3 is on hold unless/until sales improve. It's unlikely that any game such as Kingdom Hearts is going to be on the PS3 any time soon unless sales pick up dramatically (and it doesn't appear that's happening any time soon).

Which means that someone else is going to be getting a hefty portion of Square development, and I suspect that will be Nintendo.

And you know why KH sells more in USA??

It`s because USA has the biggest disney loving population, probably the same group that doesnt`own and would never own a 360.

The "Knight Story" fits a lot better, because it is likely to be a more like a FF universe game than a KH one.

I wouldn't consider one side saying "We aren't going to release our games on your system till your sales improve" a close working relationship. Nor would I consider it a close working relationship when you give one handheld 8 games, 6 of which are remakes, and another handheld 14games, only 2 of which are remakes. I'm sure you can figure out which system is getting what on your own. That sounds more like a tumultuous relationship at best, and a bad relationship at worst. However, I agree with you that there will likely be multiple KH games, but I think the "Main plot" game will continue on the Wii. KH1 and 2 will likely be remade in a single pack for the Wii before that though.

I think the proper sequel will go to PS3 and possibly 360, spin offs will go to other consoles and machines.

I wasn't just talking about the gaming industry when i said they have a close working relationship. If you look at anime sreies based off gangan manga most of the music is provided by Sonymusic. This is what I was talking about.
