Forums - Gaming - Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat

The time is nigh. Very soon we will be blessed with another Street Fighter and yet another Mortal Kombat. Both games are excellent beat em ups but as we know, everyone has a favorite.

Street Fighter:

1) The daddy of 2d beat em ups. Probably ate more pocket money then any other fighter I know in the arcades.

2) Amazing lasting gameplay.

3) Some of the most memorable characters, moves and phrases.

4) Possibly the most knocked off game.

Mortal Kombat:

1) Brought Death moves into fashion (I believe Eternal Champions on the Sega Megadrive and Sega Mega Cd may have been the first).

2) Made those funky photo graphics the next big thing (I believe the 1st game to do this was Pit Fighter :s not to sure though).

3) BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD, Yeah baby. gave us blood and more blood and gore and you know how much we like that in video games!

4) Some insane special moves (did Raiden say "ali baba hey?")

5) Sexy real women is sexy outfits :p

Both games are great no doubt. I have played both games until my fingers have bled trying to pull of combo's and special moves, but if I had to make a choice, I would say Street Fighter is the one for me. the gameplay is near enough to perfect for me. Me and my group of friends have always ended up playing Street Fighter to battle it out. Mortal Kombat hasn't given us that same joy. Not sure if the novelty of death moves which once made it the "it" game has ran out or whether our expectations have grown and or changed, but the king of beat em ups for me and my friends is Street Fighter.

Street fighter is definitely the better series. No arguments are valid.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

I never played Street fighter... so, I guess Mortal Kombat...

Street Fighter Alpha, 3, 2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MK2>>>>SF Ex>>>>>>>>>>>the rest of MK>>>> SF the Movie

Is this a serious question? Here I have another one. Name the better platforming series, Super Mario or Spyro the Dragon.

Street Fighter, When you take away the blood and fatalies.. Mortal Kombat is shallow.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Bingo. It's not even a competition.

By the way, Fei-Hung, the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat series are not beat-em-ups, they are fighters. Beat-em-ups are games like Final Fight, Double Dragon, and Streets of Rage.

Personally, I go with Mortal Kombat. I actually do prefer the controls. But just barely. Either way, I only like SF2, MK2, and MK3. I haven't played a fighter since Brawl. I'd like to try out both the new ones when they come out.

Eh tu, Rubus? I'm not slamming the MK games, but when it comes to old school fighters, there is Street Fighter, and then there is everything else.

But I will admit that MK had some nice and cheesy movies. I actually saw the first MK movie twice in the theaters!

Street Fighter!

SF better fighting engine
MK for viscerouly pleasing.

Long lasting game play goes to the better engine. Visuals are shorter lived.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
