Forums - Gaming - Confessions of a pirate

I don't care if people pirate games. But games fall in price, budget versions gets released, sometimes stores gets shipments of old games and selling them almost for free and let's not forget reused games. So i think it is stupid to not buy games, no matter if one is a pirate or not.

And a pirated game can generate sales.

I pirated 95% of my PS1 games, 100% of my PS2 and now 100% of my 360 games. To me it is as simple as if I don´t buy pirated games I won´t buy real ones, so no company is losing real money because of me. Games here are so expensive it is impossible for 95% of the people in my country to buy.

What a classic excuse.  I do agree with stof, that pirating games is not the biggest sin in the world, but I still do not appreciate the people that do.  And if you wouldn't have bought the game in the first place, then plain and simple, you shouldn't have it.

I'm against piracy but it is true that in many countries, an original game costs more than a months salary. I have a friend that saved 6 months just to buy a second hand console. And that's really saving like not buying food and squatting at parents not to pay rent. I doubt he'd be able to afford buying games... I mean... I don't think he'd be able to afford buying games... In fact, I know only a couple of shops that sell original games and it's rarely got more people than just me in there at times. Not to mention that for example... MGS4 would cost approximately $99... for example.

I am a Gamer... I play games and not consoles. I have a PC and Console on which I game... I like games. End of Story!

If we all start just being second hand people we could:

*Kill a lot of evil companies

*Make the poor developers crawl in the dirt, eating maggots

*Make the nice vertical fund benefactors poor by not buying their wares and by this make people all over the world starve like the politics of Mao, Pol Pot and Stalin combined.

*Grow big beards

and all this with good conscience!

I'm not condoning the act of piracy here, but you really have no place as an American to tell someone from Brazil whether they should pirate games or not. Brazil gets screwed royally up the ass in game prices and I personally give anyone from that country my blessing to pirate, because they don't have the same priviliges Americans have with game prices.

You know hes right...some of ya'll can accuse and call people theives, but be in some peoples positions...I lived in zambia with my PS2 about 4-5 years ago, and the only store that had a wide selection of games was 4 hours away, and I remember my dad got me a game that cost K700,000, in dollars that cost about $150-$200 at the time, you think thats fair?

Not just that, but in the USA the game costs $60 dollars to a minmum wage of $5-7 dollars an hour (8h/day*7days*4weeks = minimum of 1000 dollars) while in zambia the games costs 150-200 dollars but the minimum wage is much smaller than 1000 dollars.

So not only the cost is higher but the purchasing power of the consumer is even smaller.

I really don't have a problem with downloading software from torrents or the emulation crowd because nobody's making any money off it, so it's not "piracy."

Piracy is not so much the "stealing" of movies, CDs or games (most pirates have never stolen a thing in their lives) but rather the SELLING of games/movies/CDs that they have aquired through illegal means, I.E.:

The people who film movies and sell bootleg DVDs on the streets for $5-$10

Or those who sell burned copies of CDs or PC games, or those "100-in-1" game pak knockoffs that you sometimes see at mall kiosks.

That's the stuff the entertainment industry needs to focus on and they do for the most part... Nintendo for example is notorious for busting up companies selling pirated or bootleg merchandise. The movie and music industries also like to go after the occasional guy who uploads massive amounts of movies or music on torrent sites to try to keep them in check.

I've never purchased something that was bootlegged or copied and never will... if I'm gonna spend my hard earned cash I'd rather just buy the actual DVD/CD/game in question than give it to some loser who sits at home and burns CDs all day to supply his drug habits LOL.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

And yet, it's your fault for pirating games. You should just have to do without since your country and gaming companies combine to screw you royally in the ass and mouth. Twesterm what say you to these kids from the other countries that get these kinds of prices handed to them?

So you're arguing that this guy's random birth location means he can never play video games?

He was born into an unfair situation and it's his job as a human being to fight his way out, and if he steals some entertainment, why do you care?

He is not hurting the developer's wallets.  For him it's either steal or never play.

Game reviewers never pay for games, and yet they play a part in advertising and helping other people make decisions.  What's the difference between being a game reviewer or a pirate?  Either one of them gets games for free and then tells all their friends which ones are good, and I'd even argue that pirates help good games more than reviewers do.  HOOHAH.
