I have noticed that game and amazon have started taking pre-orders of the 80GB PS3 in the UK (which does have a DualShock 3 included) for delivery on the 29th, with game slapping it over the front page. They both still have the 40GB in stock, and amazon are selling it at a slightly reduced price.

So there are only a few things that could really happen.

Either stores start discouting the 40GB now to get them out the way

Or the sales dry up while people wait for the 80GB and then the 40GB will eventually get discounted

Or Sony have really got the stock levels right, so we will barely see any consoles moved in the next few weeks

In the US we dont have a confirmed date for the 80GB, but people still have the incentive to get the MGS 4 limited edition bundle, and we have seen stock shortages recently, which does indicate that stuff is drying up

So do you think that sales are going to go down to nearly nothing during this month until the 80GB comes, or do you think they will stay roughly the same for a short time?

To answer the post, unlike someone, sales will suck until the 80gb comes out, I know 5 people waiting...might be able to sccop a 40gb cheap if they do not run out prior to the 80 gb launch.

OT: They will increase slowly until the 80GB comes out, spike, then settle around 70-75k/week in NA and 95-100k/week in Europe.

Because its Sony, they will have miscalculated on their 40g stock, and European sales of the PS3 will drop to 5000 a week before the 80g arrives.

They will spike back up to pre-MGS4 numbers and settle till the holidays. I expect a knock-down, drag-out fight, for top hardware sales between PS360. Wii will dominate this holiday season for sure.

well its got every chance to do so.

ps3 has sold more this year than 360 has at a much higher price point, i belive with the new 80gig model the sales over xmas will be huge. once 2008 is out of the way, there will surely be a possible price cut in 2009. i cant picture them sticking to $399 and £299 all through 2009
