Forums - Sales - 360 Worldwide Sales Numbers Aren't Even Plausible - 19.5M 360 Sales

These arguments never hold sway, because of one immutable fact. This site uses a methodology to track console sales. Thus a reasonable person would suspect that if one set of figures is drastically off then all the sales figures must be drastically off. Sometimes they are with games, but never with hardware.

I have acess to Media Create, NPD, and Chart-Track/GTK numbers at work and did some sums for the worldwide 360 sales and the most recent figues only come out to around 19.5 million. Actual numbers are probably a little higher for the various smaller countries that aren't tracked by the major companies.

I don't think 20.15 million is even possible for the 360 given the latest worldwide shipment figures from Microsoft's most recent quartely report, a reasonable estimate of how many 360s Microsoft has been shipping each month in 2008, and the number of 360s sitting on store shelves unsold worldwide.

For 20.15 million to be even possible Microsoft would have to made a dramatic increase in shipments relative to the previous six months of 2008 and/or less than Wii levels of stock sitting on the shelves worldwide.

There seems to be a fairly large number of mystery sales being reported for the 360 in the Others category along with a somewhat inflated North America life to date sales that come out to some 500-600 thousand extra 360 sales that have no data to back them up with.

Does NPD/Chart-Track/GTK and Media Create cover....

South Korea

Taiwan

South Africa

Mexico

South America

Hong Kong

? Those are 6 areas that most tracking firms do not cover. Did you add numbers for those in, anywhere? I'd like to see your numbers that you are using, and discuss them before you go around saying it's overtracked. Provide evidence against it with your legitimate NPD/GTK/MC/CT numbers first, please.

GfK now cover South Africa:

Through May 08:

Hardware Units LTD:

PS2: 750,000
PSP: 95,000
360: 65,000
WII: 45,000
PS3: 40,000
NDS: 25,000

I am convinced this is one of Kingofwhale's alt accounts.

He is constantly bitching on numerous sites regarding his "perceived" viewed discrepancies towards VGC's numbers. He had a recent thread similar to this one, and I for one think this is a camouflaged ninja account of uneducated ramblings...to similiar to his own.....LOL epic fail thread LOL!!!!!!!

USA NPD Through June 08:
360: 10.49m
Canada NPD Through June 08:
360: 0.84m
Mexico IDG Through December 07:
360: 0.55m

Total: 11.88m

Americas VGC Through June 08:
360: 11.78m

Considering the 11.88m figure doesn't include 2008 Mexico figures or any figures from South America I'd say 360 is more undertracked than overtracked compared to NPD/IDG in Americas.

Japan Media Create Through July 08:
360: 600k
Japan VGC Through July 08:
360: 640k

Just 40k difference in Japan, which only leaves us waiting for you to post the Chart-Track/GfK data to see where the problem (if any) is.

I love you BKK2... where do you get all this stuff.

Also Can I ask why this seems to show the Wii ahead of the PS3 in Spain by the end of 2007?... what's going on there?

Do MS numbers include RRoD replacements in their shipments?

Couple things...

Xbox 360 does pretty well in regions not tracked by NPD, Chart Track, GFK, or Media Create. This is especially true in what I call tropical areas - i.e. Latin America (Mexico all the way down to Chile) and the wealthier countries of South East Asia.

Our data runs further than NPD data, so our totals for the Americas are always going to be higher than NPD since they include hw sales for more areas - North & South America and since we have a longer time frame.

In terms of inventory, with the introduction of the $300 20-gig price point for 360 in the USA sales have increased for that model while inventory is getting phased out. The stores are somewhat loathe to take the new $350 model since a price drop is likely coming in early September, and since the old $350 model, not at $300 is selling better than it was before.

I find your lack of faith disturbing, troll.

OT: Based on both of your responses, I suspect you aren't a gamer, you are a mole from NPD trying to disrupt the flow of things on this site. You have info - post it. 'Nuff said. You wanna slam the numbers here, well, post yours. Otherwise, I'd suggest going back to your cube and quit wasting NPD resources and close your account. Muchas gracias.

I don't know where they get the Spain figure from ... maybe AC Nielsen. I'd like to see the GfK figures, as I suspect they also have Wii ahead of PS3 in Spain by the end of 2007. Last Spanish PS3 figure I have is 615,000 in May.

Mexico rocks!

Half a million 360 sold more then the PS3? LOL!

^ 360 launched February 2006, PS3 launched August 2007. The chart is through December 2007. Still, 360 does very well in Mexico.

Where are you from?, if you are from mexico (like i am)  you should know than the ps3 has been in stores since the usa launch it was betwen % 8 000 - 10 000 pesos (800-1000 dollars) and actuali with the official launch august 07 its at the same price (8 000), so, the official  launch means nothing on the ps3 sales.

And like Gebx said above, Mexico rocks, those 600k could be for any system, but the attention than microsoft have here its why its the best console sold. Just looking at the price, the core is betwen 300 - 330 dollars, the wii its at 450 and the ps3 at 800.

End of 2011 (made 02/01/11)
Wii: 99.453 m
Xbox 360: 67.837 m
Ps 3: 60.726 m
