Forums - Nintendo - Why? Seriously? Third Parties have problems...

I'm not blaming Nintendo, either... I am still a Nintendo Fan. They make the best games.

I get frustrated when I see companies not maximizing profit and guilty of poor long term planning.

Same here, I've owned every Nintendo home console.  Many people argue that it's always the market leader that gets all the games so I was looking forward to it... boy that back fired LOL  The last Wii game I bought was MOHH2 (fantastic game)... that was a while ago LOL

This is the first time I own a none nintendo console.   It's not like I have hate for Nintendo, I really am a big fan but enough is enough.

I've bought more than that, but I buy a lot of games... more than I could ever play.  I am not rich, but I collect and will play them all when I retire :P.

Nintendo is missing oppurtunities to sell both first party and make royalties from third party games.

I already bought and sold a 360 (because of RROD) and PS3 (bought a used 20gig, and sold it for a profit).  I have a killer PC but I like playing on consoles.

So I will be spending $1000 on hardware instead of on games, and I'm sure I'm not the only core gamer that could be spending more money on Wii games.

Nintendo would be making more off of me because of my reasons above.  Third Parties would be making more off of me because of lower dev costs.

There is so much missed profit, it makes me very sad. (And it makes me sad as a gamer)

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Damn, Nintendo's awesome!!! They should invest in expanding their game divisions exponentially, ban third parties all together and do what they do best!

I agree. Then somehow they could make Sony go out of business and destroy the 360, and send 3rd parties "Go to hell" letters that start off:

Dear Capcom, Nintendo here. Remember RE4 "exclusivity"? Hope you like Games for Windows.

Except they would all be case specific.

Dear Jaffe, Reggie here. Remember when Sony made consoles? Good times. Enjoy Vista.

I know you want more so here ya go.

Dear Ubisoft, Miyamoto-kun here. Remember Bratz: Babiez? Well, now you can call it Windowz: Piratez, or how bout Farewellz: Profitz.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

@steven: I believe NES was more dominant than PS2 (except for Europe, that is).
You actually seemed to have quite one-sided point of view. What Nintendo does, instead of pay for exclusives, is co-develope games with 3rd parties or hire a 3rd party to make game for them (Mario Parties, Geist, ED, F-Zero GX). The only meaningful difference is, that when paying for a game to come to your platform, the IP stays as 3rd party IP. So Nintendo is doing the same as for example M$, but their approach is different.
And i don't think people complain about the moneyhats except to see it as a reason why certain game comes to certain platform.

I don't think there are "too many" multiplatform owners, since it really makes no difference due to future sales potential. Besides, it works the other way too, which shows the whole idea on how Wii differentiates itself from the competition. (Unless you had somekind of logic that i didn't get).

The online was largely because of bad online game sales on consoles during the last gen, so Nintendo assumed they sell badly this gen too. Well, they didn't.

But look how Nintendo did with the DS, they put the 1st party games out to get different demographics on DS and then leaved the table, with a huge installbase, for 3rd parties (not solely, of course). That's what they are doing with the Wii.

@iamfanboy: Remember when DS and PSP launched? PSP was beating DS in sales for a moment. Besides, the PSP installbase is sustainable too, just that there are far more DS:s and the cost for developing a game is less. Consider that that Wii/PS360 follows the DS/PSP path (which it looks like), and after a while you're talking about Wii having so large installbase with no real competition, just like you said about the DS.

@iamfanboy It took the ds 3 years before it got that amount of third party support. Almost all of the support went to the psp. The wii's third party support is increasing at a steady pace. At this point in its life it is much better than that of the DS'. I'm pretty sure in a few years we will see the Wii passing the other consoles in terms of Japanese support, handhelds get most of it now, and the HD consoles get sllightly more than the Wii, and maybe even half the amount of Western support that the HD consoles get. Also if Mohh2 is the last game you got, I could reccomend tons of 1st and 3rd party Wii games if you want. Just PM me.

You just proved my point... if most of the support went to the PSP in the beginning then that means third parties have no problem ditching Nintendo if they can.  It just so happened that the PSP's sales bombed at the start so third parties were forced to take the DS seriously.

Bolded part:  The Wii has next to nothing as far as T/M rated games.  I love Nintendo made games but I sometimes want a mature game for a change of pace but NO.  Not a single main third party series like Street Fighter, RE5, GTA, FF, Silent Hill, Castlevania, Contra and the list goes on and on and on.  When I heard that Capcom was making a new Bionic Commando, I was thrilled but then found out it was for 360/PS3.

Why not port them to Wii?

Why not make the game right on one platform (possibly the platform you developed the predecessors for and have all the tools, artwork etc.? and think about porting later?

If you want my opinion, I'm still surprised the PS2 even gets support now! o_o

Perhaps because the PS2 still sells 10k/w in Japan has three times the consoles sold than the wii and for games that have no use of the motion controls pretty similar graphics and capabilities?

You made an excellent point, however, the circumstances are different.  The install base of PS3/360 is greater then the Wii... that will change but it is very unlikely to reach the DS/PSP ratio.   The DS is so much greater then PSP (units sold) that there's little choice for third parties.

@Zen: Haha, that was hilarious.

@axumblade: I believe Atlus is that much smaller, that they can't afford on many similar projects, when it clearly makes more profit to introduce new consept to a new console, instead of porting the old ones.

RE: Agreed Very likely. ALso check out umbrella chronicles.

GTA: Definately possible, especially after the rumors lately.Especially after the DS games was announced.

SF: ALso very likely. You should check out the capcom forums.

Silent Hill: People still care about silent hill? Its not even being developed by the original team as far as I know.I guess fatal frame IV is a good replacement.

Castlevania: The wii is actually getting a new castlevania game, and I don't see any on ps360 except for the enhanced port of SotC  on XBL.

Contra: There isn't a contra game on anything other than the DS so far this gen.

Final Fantasy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_XC1e2H7-g YEah not the same thing as the main series, but seems to be of high quality and budget. I also see more final fantasy games coming also. You should also check out rpgs like Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World, Fragile, Arc Rise Fantasia, Oburo Muramasa Youtouden( Basically a sequel to Odin SPhere), the Main Series tales is coming to the WIi, and probably many more.

Now sinc you like capcom how about we go see some of their games for the Wii.

Zack and Wiki(Great New IP)

Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles(Great new addition to the resident evil series even if a spinoff)

Monster Hunter 3(Big series on PSP)

Spyborgs(Great new Ip)

Megaman 9 ( Also on the other consoles, but still great)

Okami( If you haven't played it excellent game)

Your probably already played RE4.

I have a lot of Wii games (most Nintendo made) and yes, RE:UC is an excellent game which I proudly own (really hope they make a sequel).  However, there's a huge difference between games available now and games which may be released in the future.

I had hopes for a 3D castlevania, I'm still going to check out the fighter but it's not the same.

My gf loves Z&W... although it's very well done, I'm just not into it.

Yes, Megaman 9 is a must buy!!! You can't beat oldschool!  Now if Sega would make a new Golden Axe for Wii :) :D :D :D
