Forums - Microsoft - Braid is the best game on Xbox 360.

I think a lot of people have never played Symphony of the Night. Just an observation.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

Like I said in the other thread, I played the trial recently, and I have to say I was surprised! Especially 1-2, with that platform puzzle. That was damn good! XD

Oh yeah, and there's a Mike Oldfield song in the game (one of his best as well)! Another surprise!

I'm still not sure if 1200 points is worth it. Is the game long?

*P.S.: I think Bionic Commando Rearmed is going to get that honor soon. Maybe then, Braid will be the best exclusive XBLA title! =P

It's short, and Braid is not exclusive. I actually don't agree with the reviews: they focus ont he game being "deep" and "intellectual," which largely it is not. The story is not engrossing or profound, but verbose and bloated.

I say that while still loving this game :p

The game has tons and tons of symbolism.

SOTN is not an original title.

However it does exist, and is in fact "on" XBLA. A step further, it has enhanced graphics and leaderboards built to function with the service.

Braid does have a ton of symbolism. However, to assert that ANY game is "obviously" or "way" better than SotN, is folly imo, and it is likely the result of an opinion created by a person who has never played said game, and possibly generalized it as "Just a Castlevania game."

By far the best game on Xbox Live until August 27th. So far it's way up there on being one of the best of this generation thus far. I just loved the pulling your hair out in frustration logic puzzles and the ending was brilliant.

OT: Braid is a great game, and I've only played the demo so far. When I grab a points card for CC, I'll probably pick up Braid ... and maybe Bionic Commando: Rearmed, too.

I'm with sieanr on this one. It's not that Symphony of the Night isn't the best damn title on Xbox Live, hell it's better than any 360 game in existence. But it's a port and therefore doesn't really register in my mind when I think these best games up. The best title on the Wii is most definitely either Gunstar Heroes or Super Mario World, but I wouldn't count them if asked. It's just preference. Everyone knows SOTN is godly though. Then again, Braid is quickly joining the SOTN camp of "never aging gameplay".

@Dolla-You and me buddy, all day all night Castle Crashers. We'll be an unstoppable team.

To add my opinion to the discussion above. SOTN is my favourite game of all time and ive played it many times before i got it on xbox live. Hell I'll play it again soon beacuse last time i beat it, I beat it under a non xbox live gamertag...

So I don't think saying "the game is not an original game so its not the best on live" is valid since even as an enhanced PS1 port the game still spanks 90% of actual store bought 360 games.

Also, if Braid impresses me more than SOTN did...I will change my avatar here. :)

Since no one else seems to want to discuss this game, I'll start:

I have owned a 360 and a PS3 for some time now, and despite the variety of games on XBL, I have fairly consistently preferred PSN: my favorite games across both systems were, up until now, SSD, Echo Chrome, Pixel Junk Monsters and Pixel Junk Eden.

And now I think my favorite of all of these is Braid. The story is hokey and (I would hope intentionally) verbose, but it is already my favorite 360 game and quite possibly my favorite HD game. Play it! Buy it!

Great visuals, great gameplay, and excellent, excellent music.

I can only agree. +1,000,000 to you!

It's not that it doesn't count. It's just that it doesn't count. Get it?

When people talk about the best games they've played this generation, they usually mean new titles, not titles they revisited from the past. Then again, there were some calling this blankly the best game on Xbox Live. Neither can I complain about. SOTN is godly, and has passed the test of time going on 11 years now, but...

Braid really is good. I don't mean normal good. I mean change the way you think about games good. It oozes innovation like it's going out of style. I can't put Braid up over SOTN because i've played and replayed SOTN for years and years across multiple platforms(PSP, PSOne, 360), and yet I can see Braid in that same league one day, because everything that makes the game great, it's art style, gameplay and story, will probably never age a day, same as SOTN.

I'll accept that explaination. Good post. I do, however, think that for a game to reach that SotN ballpark, it needs to stand the test of time. We won't know that for a while. Otherwise, again, good post. I understand that method of thinking.
