Forums - Sales - Electricity usage by console

Okay, I found this a bit interesting, don't know if you will. It doesn't really matter a lot, but still.

The Ps3 uses 380 watts an hour (source: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=356 , or just google it)

Compared to this, the Ps2 used 45 watts an hour.

The X360 uses 160 watts an hour

The original used ~ 70.

The Wii uses ~ 17 watts an hour when on, 1-2 when standby.

A comparison is that the Gamecube used roughly 30-40 watts (differing reports) when used.

The DS was hard to find anything about, same for GBA. One thing though.

I'm playing FE8 on DS now. It's a GBA game. Well, I play on minimal electricity, and it has played almost 40 hours without a refill now (the light just recently became red). So I believe that the DS uses about 3 times as much electricity as the GBA did.

PsP, no info.

BTW, this was just a little fun fact that I posted. It doesn't really mean anything

Prices if you live in USA  (average price) should be around this.

24/7 use of Wii connect 24 365 days a year = ~ 1 dollar

Use of Wii for an average of 3 hours on a day (not necessarily played, but on), for the entire year = 2 dollars

3 hours Ps3 (on) a day average for the year = 40 dollars

3 hours X360 (on) a day average for the year = 18 dollars

In some parts of Europe, the prices are probably slightly higher.

This seems a bit odd.

The Ps3 uses more than 20 times as much energy as the Wii?

The Wii uses half of GC?

Still, I've checked a bit, it's correct.

So in reality, GC is 2 Wiis duct taped together.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/30/40gb-ps3-features-65nm-chips-lower-power-consumption/

It's been revealed that the new 40GB PlayStation 3 features more than just a cut down hard disk drive. Sony has also thought to stick the 65nm version of the Cell inside the new console, reducing the power usage down to around 135 Watts (down from 200 Watts.) That means the console also runs cooler and quieter, which is always a plus for a device that usually resides in the living room. Sony also jiggled around a few other components by making the heat pipe smaller, swapping out the motherboard for a new version, and added a button battery to keep time when the system is off. Looks like potential PS3 purchasers will be looking forward to a less noticeable din then.

Your power consumption for the ps3 is triple what engadget says.

I never knew the gamecube requires more Energy then the wii.......

Actually, that's the second time they decrease it apparently. So 380 originally is possible, then 200, then 135. Most on google is outdated right now.

WOW, it's amazing what taking out full BC can do. Screw it, full BC is worth $40 a year. >_<

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

380 watts is size of the power source, not the average electricity usage. This just means peak electricity usage can be at maximum 380 watts (which PS3 should never reach), average is much lower.

no, it's not possible. My PS3 was manufactured in December of 2006 and it's rated for 250 watts. There were no hardware revisions between launch and December of 2006, so I think it's safe to assume that is the max power usage of any PS3 model.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

PS3 electric bill vs. X360 Live fee..........

But since I have both, I'm screwed anyway!
