FFX was a pretty mediocre game. I enjoyed it thoroughly but there is no doubt it was the first of the 'casual' Final Fantasies.
While I enjoyed the game, the voice acting and plot were both pretty weak. Over all the story and its forced twists were pretty convoluted and the difficulty curve just fell apart towards the end. Insult to injury the expanded international eddition was never released stateside denying the majority of Western Audiences the chance to play the definitive version of the game.
Yuna looked like she had Downs Syndrome. Tidus looked like Ellen Degeneris in a skater boy/clown get up. But despite their short commings both would, for some reason, come to be the copy and pasted archetypes for all future FF main characters.
Auron was a bad ass, nuff said. Khimari was the typical noble savage given about as much character consideration as Meg is in Family Guy. Waka is the man of a hundred ethnic stereotypes and proof that Jocks are only acceptable elements in character driven games if they're too dumb to have any form of a superiority complex. Lulu is the typical big-titty eye candy Tsundere whose major contribution to the game was largely making Tidus' interaction with the other characters about as awkward and uncomfortable as possible, I mean the bitch might as well have been brandishing a penis sized guillitine instead of a stuffed toy for all the warm fuzziness she brought to the game. Rikku was cute and should have been the girl Tidus went with, but for some reason I guess he prefers women like Yuna who are chronically handicapped by every self-defeating stereotype that can possibly be alloted the female gender. And... Seymor had one of the most anti-climatic ends of any FF Villain ever... And he had a pot belly.
And I cannot emphasize enough just how convoluted and forced the plot twists were in this game. It was as if they were forcing themselves to try and do something clever or maybe follow in the footsteps of Hideo Kojima's brand of Storytelling (you know, self contradicting explanation of the story's elements, shallow character development and a needlessly convoluted super structure).
A Good game, a very fun game, but not a great game.
