Forums - Microsoft - Japanese Xbox 360 exclusive release draws 100 person line

In Japan, the 360 has been getting closer and closer to PS3's level of weekly sales in the past few months. Not that that's a great feat, but it actually is relatively speaking. It will probably surpass it this week, and then drop to 6-8k.

Well, I hope the PS3 gets it soon... I can't afford buying a 360 with no guarantee that it won't break on me. Thank guys.

But you can afford a much more expensive console that has no guarantee that it won't break on you, as opposed to one that is cheaper and you're covered for 3 years as opposed to the standard 1. Righhhhhhhhttttttttttt.......

Don't mean to sound harsh, but where did you stand during the PS1 and PS2 era when there were numerous consoles that broke down? Mine never did (PS2 is still going strong), but I bought it knowing that some people had issues with it.

It's cool if you're worried about RROD, but I read your post as if you were saying the PS3 (or Wii for that matter) never breaks, which is false.

Anyway, on topic:

Good news about Japan, at least MS is making some return on it's investment in the Japanese market, after the somewhat lukewarm reception LO received.

This is old, and no Xen, there are no plans. According to some rumors, PS3 may be getting it's own exclusive "tales" game. If that's true, I doubt this would be ported to the PS3, if it does eventually get ported, expect it to be a year or 2 before it hits.

 The article is dated 07/08 how is it old.

@bbsin

You need to understand many PS3 users are deluded to one point or another. They cannot concede this particular point in any way shape or form. Otherwise that means they have to concede their console has an inferior library. However a potential release of any exclusive game a year from now on their console. Well in their shallow minds that can patch holes in the hull. Quite often PS3 library arguments revolve around phantom games in the absence of real ones.

@Xen

That depends on the contract between the developer and Microsoft. However I suspect that a lot of what is going to motivate the developer to either port this title or create a new title in the series for the PS3 has much to do with their previous ports sales. Basically how will Eternal Sonata perform, and how will Tales perform on the 360.

Basically the port of Eternal Sonata has to show sales that justify developing games in this genre for the PS3. Remember the PS3 is a completely unproven commodity. Unlike the 360 that has pushed two JRPGs over half a million. Sony only has a port of Enchanted Arms, and Valkyrie Chronicles. Neither one doing the console any favors in the eyes of developers. Especially given the fact that the PS3 has over a three to one advantage of install base within Japan.

Honestly I think it would be hard for any developer to justify porting or making a game in this genre for the PS3 until Sony proves that their machine can actually move this genre. Perhaps the mindset is beginning to be one of if the PS3 moved without any of these games for eighteen months. Then perhaps the majority of PS3 owners are not interested in this genre regardless. That is a pretty difficult logic to circumvent unless a title like Eternal Sonata defies expectations. Instead the developer is far more likely to play it safe with console choice, and convince Microsoft to sponsor them. Which Microsoft will gladly do, because they like to starve Sony.

Anyway if you want more games in this genre convince all your friends to pick up Eternal Sonata when it comes out in your region. The game needs to sell really well to get role playing developers interested in the PS3.

Of course they break, but they are far more reliable.
Where was I in the PS1 - PS2 eras? I bought my PS1 and PS2 well into the generation (1998 for my PS1, 2003 for my PS2), when most issues were fixed. Also, I was little, and wasn't well informed in the issues of these consoles, so it wasn't a factor.

Any plans for that game to go on the PS3?

it's timed

Says who?

 If anyone here has been keeping up with they're blog, they'd know that Namdai has said the PS3 was too difficult to code for.

So...no its not timed.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

A X360 has less chance of breaking than a 80gb PS3 does. So you really should take the plunge and get the better of the HD consoles.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Don't you understand that you should take the same logic with the X360? Most of the issues have been fixed. The reliability of the console is rather good now. Go look at the NeoGAF superpost "My Xbox 360 died, and I lived to tell the story" and notice the tremendous dropoff in complaints since the Falcon became a staple of consoles.
