Forums - Gaming - The eight most powerful game studios in the world...

...decided by Gamepro

It may have “OMG!” scrawled inexplicably on its sidebar, but Gamepro can put together a pretty solid list. Today, the site rattled off its top eight most powerful videogame studios, and we mostly agree. In no particular order, Gamepro gave the nod to:

  • Epic Games
  • Bungie
  • Rockstar North
  • Maxis Software
  • EA Tiburon
  • Sony Computer Entertainment
  • Blizzard Entertainment
  • Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development

Valve, Infinity Ward, and Harmonix took home runner-up ribbons.

Probably right, though why that EA studio?

Why Bungie? yes they made alot of money with Halo, but it's not like any of their other games ever hit the big time.

I would have included S-E (biggest JRPG company) and 2k.

I think Sony and Nintendo take up the two top spots with a significant gap between the runners up in terms of long term games development power. Microsoft also has some industry might, but IMO mostly with regard to their deep pockets rather than inhouse development.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

where the heck is S-E, their games alone coud decide a console war

Improvements are caused by people who complain

Rockstar North and Bungie don't exactly pump out the games. They only really have one major franchise each, though admittedly those sell tremendously well.

SE definitely should have been up there in place of one of those, because of DQ, FF, KH, etc.  Valve would've also been a good choice.

Also, why single out EA Tiburon but lump the entirety of SCE together as one studio? Same goes for Nintendo EAD, which is separated into individual (though lesser known) groups.
