it's 280k of Ôkami Wii _shipped_ ("sold" for a publisher is always what we consider to be "shipped", if a "shipped" number isn't mentioned) - the PS2 version shipped more than that

yes, it did have hundreds of thousends of unsold units at retailers, which is why to capcom the game was a financial and an image-desaster (retailer image - I guess the consumers who actually bought and played it were pleased with it)
and I think even if the Wii version was profitable, that it didn't at all manage to make the Ôkami project as a whole profitable, which is why capcom won't be stupid enough to make a sequel to this phenomenal game

I'm pretty sure the 270k sold for Okami (PS2) was just NA. Lifetime Japanese sales plus the first month's sales in the US put it at above 270k sold to consumers. (media create and NPD)
If you read the interview, he *never* said the sales are bad or disappointing - in any way.
All he says, is that before they would develop a sequel - they would expect the game to sell a lot more units.
And that makes perfect sense to me - it would be an expensive game to make, you would want to be sure of selling a solid 1m units at *least* upon release.

yea look at the numbers here. Theres no others or japan for Okami on WII
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
Man Okami should be on the Top 10 games on any generation.
It's absolutelly top class.
It needed more attention. The press gave great scores.
Advertising through Nintendo Channel is always a good idea and it comes with low cost. Maybe a kind of sequel in WIIware at the right price with obvious links to the WII game, maybe would boost sales a little.
And why they don't release a collector's edition? I hope it hits 400K mark at the end.
You know, I love Okami, but I am not sure I'd want a sequel; the story is wrapped up so nicely, and while I am disappointed that (minor non-story spoiler) none of the unlockable suits is the one with the tendrils of light, I wouldn't want them to change anything major about the ending. No, I think I will just go back to the original Okami whenever I need to play it again. A sequel would kind of ruin the magic for me, in a way.
I also say this because Clover would probably never develop it, even if Capcom wanted to do it.
Please, PLEASE do NOT feed the trolls.
