You'll be ok with the 2 gigs for a few years if you have a nice card to compensate.

I'm looking at a Best Buy flyer and a Future shop flyer right now and they have computers with 5gb, 6gb and 8gb of ram. |
Having computers in stock that have 8 GB of RAM is different than " Most new computers come with 6gb to 8gb of ram now." The vast majority of new computers have under 4 GB of RAM, I don't know what you're trying to do here.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Name ONE game currently out or in development that requires more than 32 bits adressing to work.........
Something I didn't notice directly mentioned is that Games typically push graphics cards to new levels, not your PC's RAM. That is probably the reason kingofwale said his laptop with 2gb mem can't run new games. He probably has a video card or cpu issue not a ram issue.
Again, I wouldn't worry about your ram for at least a year. Keep in mind I think most of us are assuming you have XP, not Vista, which is a big resource hog.
It's alright I guess. I just have 1 GB of RAM and I run all games fine without lag. That will probably last you a few more years, not necessarily running games on high settings though.
I think you will soon need to upgrade to another motherboard or upgrade to another PC tower altogether...
I'm still plodding along with 1gig on my machine, although I'm running XP which is less hungry than Vista.
I'd say that by the time you need more than 2gig you may need to upgrade your CPU and video card anyway..
Please tell us what your other components are. 2GB in itself isn't bad, but if you have a craptastic videocard, the RAM is not the issue.

again, my non-gaming laptop has that many ram and I can't even play games on it, how do you even manage to play video game today??? an extremely dumb question to ask about ram, when the most important part is the video-card. If you are going to cheap out on ram itself... don't play PC games.. Get a console, it's cheaper in the long run. |
My Laptop has 256MBof RAM I think
I don't play PC games much though, It can run GTA Vice City at least, as I have been playing it today.
And I don't think my video card is dedicated (which is what's good for games right?) I think it's probably 64Mb shared video card or something like that.
My laptop would pwn all your fancy arse PCs.... probably because I wouldn't be bothered throwing it at said PCs.

yeah. I have 2GB DDR2 and a 2.00GHz dual-core on my laptop, but my graphics card sucks so I can't play any really new games on it. (Not that I want to. Laptop graphics cards are ridiculously expensive)
Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it
