I don't think it's funny at all.  There's a bunch of people in here supporting pedophiles offering up their points.

well if were talking about pedophiles lets put friendscodes on are pc to so we can only speak to people we no and can only go on certain websites...... dont be stupid mate no every1 on xbox is a pedo.

That's a great idea.  Chris Hansen should get on the case.  Thank god for that hero.

I know not everyone sharing points on their Xbox Lives are pedos.  There are also their unsuspecting victims... duh.

Isn't there a pedophile related achievement though?

What is wrong with gamertags, they are great, and friend codes are rubbish, they just have no advantage whatsoever, apart from you can have your own name. It is like in the PS2 era where you could have your own nickname for every game in the profile that you make on that game, but it is so much better if you just have a unified profile for everything, that works so well with the achievements. Avatars and home will create things similar to wiis, but in terms of online multiplayer, gamertags are great, how would the friend code system work with call of duty, would everyone have to have their nickname? But then what if people have the same name, and that is what gamertags achieve, they are oh so much better

@i love Xbox360: Actually similar system to friendcodes is already in wide use on PC:s, M$ Messenger/Pidget etc. shares the idea.

I don't know if you are being serious because most of the time you aren't but if you want pedophiles, I don't know how many like to pwn in CoD4 or Gears or Halo.  If you want pedophiles just go to an AOL chatroom.

I don't like the friendcodes.  I see what you're saying how they are more personal because you need to know theirs and they need to know yours but what's wrong with having friends that you don't know.  I mean you are ranting about this on an internet forum.  You probably don't know or met anyone in this thread and this site.

@EaglesEye: Ok, so let's see.

To your first point: You need to know someones friendcode only when adding someone if there's no in-game adding. After adding, you see only Miis and their names.

Your second point then again had nothing to do with friendcodes. Let's say that the system you described would be implemented in a Wii game, you would still see my Mii would be beating your score, not some random series of digits.

And for the last part, yes the code is different in every game. Actually, for example, Mario Kart Wii has four licenses, which all have separate friendcode (this is needed in order to make multiple online profiles possible). If you use the same Mii in different games, you'd be seen as the same guy in every game, no matter the friendcode.
So far the only bad thing is, that the friendcode isn't unified. Having your games friendcode linked to your Mii and Wii friendcode would solve the complaints people have. But, that has nothing to do with the friendcodes itself.

You are overrating Miis.

1. You cant add a Mii or search for a Mii. You just have to look at the sigs of various VGC users. I have seen sigs with 7-8 different Wii codes for different games. They cannot just add a picture of their Mii, because you cant add or search them online on the Wii from that picture.

But for a gamertag, you can. You can add me on your friends list and play online with me anytime by just looking at my gamertag name.

2. How much can you customize a Mii such that your face and clothes will be unique? I am sure there are very similar looking Miis around. And if Im not mistaken, it will be confusing again when people keep changing their clothes or faces.

3. Its going to be a pain in the ass for developers to integrate Miis in-game. I would not want to play GeoWars 2 and have a Mii in the right corner because Miis dont fit into the theme and feel of the game. Its so easy for developers to integrate names because they are just text.

what on earth are you talking about

@Munkeh: Gamertag=unified friendcode. See, you didn't complain about friendcodes.
In CoD, people would show... As their Miis. Unless there's two guys with same Miis, i don't think there would be any confusion.

@WessleWoggle: Actually i'm really serious and due to friendcodes being more accessible, i have a real argument in the OP.

I don't follow your logic, since in order to play Wii online, you don't need to know what the friendcode even means. They're only needed (from users view) to become friends with someone. Guess you don't own a Wii?

I don't think your view on this matter is the same as the majority of the population. People see gamertags as an easy way to establish an identity across an entire network with little to no thought. I really don't see any way they could improve upon this system. Your suggestions seem to make the process more complicated and less user friendly.

@EaglesEye:
1. And that again has nothing to do with friendcode. You could build a search function based on names and Miis qualities or friendcodes. Besides, where would you need an search function when you have the friendcode? But i want to play agains blonde Miis.

2. There are same looking people all around and there are lots of various possibilities to what a Mii can look like (tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions maybe). Twroo for example has one of the most personal looking Miis.

3. So? If we don't have hundreds of people in the same game simultanously, i don't think too often there would be (atleast not too many) Miis with same names.
And i don't think changing Miis is anymore confusing than changing gamertag.

@bdbdbd

The issue isn't just friend codes. Game ID's in brawl are the worst for me not to mention useless. Assigning a friend in that game seemed like a matter of National Security.

Both people had to enter the games specific ID tag, then each had to accept the other.

4 layers of protection.

Wii friend codes would be great if they were really in the background. But they aren't Wii friend codes are actually quite a brick wall.

1. Wii has a parental code system - that should be marketed and used.
2. Friend Codes are pointless as people still make friends with internet strangers
3. I don't see why it couldn't just be left at:
a. Party A sends Friend Request
b. Party B accepts Friend Request unless
2b. Parental code required to accept this friend.

That would of been the tried and true method.

Of course we all have our own ideals.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
