Forums - Sales - american sales up!!

I do not think we can gain any conclusions from the past several weeks. A longer time frame is needed before any substantial facts can be gathered. 360 is getting boosts from the sale, PS3 is more than likely having shipment problems, and the Wii will more than likely never sale low unless there are shipment problems. There is more than enough room for 3 consoles in this market.

requiem for a ps3.

@mrstickball: As I said, anyone who believes the Wii doesn't have supply issues should at the very least be able to produce some photos (or even accounts) of Wiis piling up at stores.

Really, such a sudden and big drop wouldn't happen in the course of a week, even if some factors were making Wii demand go down.

With the coming price reductions across the board for 360s, this number is going to continue to rise...FAST. I exepect 360 to challange Wii in NA for the holiday season, and with the marketing push M$ has in store, it's going to turn into a 2-horse race in NA.

I am going to throw my opinion into this...Fanboy tears, watch out!

1) I don't buy supply issues for the Wii or PS3. For the Wii, it just seems odd that it drops off so suddenly. Nintendo has had very solid sales in the US. Maybe the X360 price drop is finally starting to cut into the Wii's sales at $249.99? At any rate, this decrease in sales won't hurt Nintendo...They're mopping up everywhere else.

2) I don't buy into the PS3 supply issues. Want proof? Look at the supposed Xbox 360 supply issues in Febuary...When supply was sorted out, how much did sales boost? At best, we will most likely see the PS3 at 60,000/wk in the US if it's lucky.

Ultimately, I am very suprised that the X360 managed to sell so well this week in the US. I would of figured that supply for the 20GB's had been drying up (after selling 200,000-odd units in NA), but it's staying strong.

Personally, I think that the price drop is cutting in to both the PS3 and Wii sales - moreso the PS3 than the Wii...At $400 or more, I don't think consumers are really going to buy the PS3 forever - even if it comes with the 80GB HDD. We saw the Xbox 360, and PS3 last year, pre-price drop reach market saturation, and no one wanted to buy the consoles because they were just too overpriced. Both made moves and benefitted. I think with the Wii at $249.99 and the Xbox 360 moving to $299.99 for the most-promoted model, a $399.99+ console just isn't going to move a lot of units, especially without any must-have exclusives outside of 1-2.

It's not PS3-Doom, or WiiFad time. The market will do what it will do. This is just marketplace change as prices change, and consumers shift to what they feel is the most affordable console on the market, regardless of which one it may be.

ok lets say 360 did steel some demand from wii,do you think it stole enough to make it sell 70k less this week?

Heh. It's weird that you  didn't give a thought to putting these two statements so close together. And it's crazy how often people forget how many times this same thing has occurred. http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=16620

Nice numbers for the DS.

yeah they are,it will sell more then 500k this week WW

and it's at 78 million world wide now.

The Ds is a freaking beast no doubt about that, its sales are superb.

The only PS3 SKU that appears to be consistently available is the 80GB MGS4 bundle. Amazon has been out of the 40GB SKU over the last week for the first time since the SKU became available in abundance. It's currently only available through independent retailers on the site.

Not coincidentally, sales of the MGS4 bundle (the only SKU available direct through Amazon), have risen with the reduced availability of the 40GB SKU.

Levels of 40GB SKU stock are unquestionably dwindling as the 80GB Core replacement nears its shipping date.

Sales of the PS3 will very likely return to regular sales levels as soon as the $399 80GB Core SKU becomes widely available.

How is wii selling systems at all is my question? They haven't had a major game release for 3 months now... other than guitar hero aerosmith and rock band.

Oh right...the casuals...

this is funny sony fanboys out in force 2night, just accept that you will never beat the 360 in america
