Thanks, now it makes sense.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Alright, we are assuming they have sold around 4 million to retailers and that they make about $40 per game (the average is probably higher than that, they made more than that in Japan with higher pricing, and the discrepancy between the dollar and the yen is beneficial to Konami, a Japanese company, not to mention how overpriced games in Europe are)
3,940,000 x $40 = $157,600,000
So even if we assume a $70 million dev cost, Konami has already DOUBLED that.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

where are you getting that they're making $40 a unit. I want a link.
Also I think a more realistic figure of units shipped would be within the range of 3-3.5m, not 4. It all boils down to how much money they make off each unit. Either way, while I doubt they've broken even, they're probably getting close.

It was stated in a pod cast I believe a long time ago.
Ok.. Let's give in.. MGS4 is a lost cause. IT LOST MORE MONEY THAN IT MADE.
There... are you happy? :S

MGS4 still is a financial dissaster. Though to truly determine that we would have to know how much MGS4 sold in the first quarter to put things in proper context. Even if we assume MGS4 has made just as much money since the first quarter ended it would still be $10m beneath making its money back. It's only a profit for the short term of this quarter and for this quarter's expenses, not for MGS4's development cost as a whole. Even then Konami is still making less than half of their revenue back. |
That is asuming that Konami payed for full development cost... I dont know about you but its a bit suspicious that Sony managed to keep a 3rd party title of this caliber as an exclusive whitout paying any money...
Anyways, profit rise was as expected. SS did his job as anyone had hoped it will :)
