Reviewers Are Dumb.
It was for the Wii. If it were a PS360 game (With graphics to meet the console expectations) it would be sitting on a 85-90 Meta score.
End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)
Wii- 72 million 3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases
360- 37 million Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak
PS3- 29 million Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

One of my theories for this is that reviewers have been lead to believe that they're great gamers due to the simplicity of most games (and have fully accepted the Cinematic reward system) and when they're faced with a game that challenges them they (tend to) throw a tantrum and claim that the game was too hard, or that it wasn't balanced, rather than accept that they aren't as good of gamers as they thought. |
Interesting theory.

stop talking like a fanboy, honestly that game deserved what it get. Even though I would rate it anywhere from 6-7 but its definitely not a 8 material. Shit believe it or not I felt even War Song that old game from genesis day is better than this. The difficulty level is noting amazing, once you get used to the dumb AI everything will become more of the same strategy fighting patterns. This is basically the same kind of games that I played the past 20 years offering nothing new at all but some improved graphic.

Are you seriously calling FFTA a bad game? Can't disagree with that. On the easy and normal difficulty settings, the Fire Emblem games aren't that hard, so much is true. But if you compare them on the highest difficulty level they offer (which I meant in my previous post), then Radiant Dawn is definitely among the harder games of the series that have been released in this decade. The new battle save feature is disabled on that setting. |
Yes, I know as much about it being disabled. Believe me, I know. -_-
I can agree that Radiant Dawn's highest difficulty is tougher than that of the other games and by "tougher" I mean that I can't simply charge into a battle and win without losing someone.
First Fire Emblem didn't get bad reviews, they're mixed:

I wouldn't call a 79 overall rating mixed. I'd say that's pretty good, especially considering what type of game it is. Most of the review sources worth considering gave it favorable reviews.

I've played the four to come to NA and Radiant Dawn is my second favorite of the bunch after the FE 7.
Fire Emblem, like all RPG's, is not going to get consistently good reviews because the RPG genre is a very hardcore genre, 'hardcore' here meaning having a relatively small, niche following. This is why FFVII, which is considered by many to be one of the greatest games ever made, has an average ranking of only 92ish, and all FF games in general don't get the massive review scores:

You do realize 92 is considered AAA, right?
