Unfortunately, this guy isn't helping the Halo/Gears/Madden image of the 360.

So far, the 360 is the best JRPG system this gen. How is some guy pointing out the nature of Final Fantasy going to hurt the 360's image?

I know.  That's why I have a 360 this generation.  The system is definitely the best jRPG console, the userbase isn't the biggest supporters of jRPGs right now.  I do expect it to change as SO4, ToV, and FF XIII come out.

I'm with Montana - I prefer Japanese Cliches more than American Cliches.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Ah, I guess not everyone is all hyped up about this game.

Here's my favorite paragraph

"Great, another game we have to pretend to be excited about. Now that Square's stunned the world and gone multi-format with its golden goose, we're all going to have to start pretending we're keen on sitting through 60-hours of tedious, sub-Hollyoaks, dramatic nonsense featuring the standard collection of Japanese video game cliches. "

The article also claims that the pictures are from the 360 version... (take with big grain of salt!)

You have to admire the balls it takes to put something like that up on a pro 360 website!!

This attitude from Xboxer is evidence of why MS's purchase of JRPGs doesn't get them anywhere, and has been an especially dismal failure in Japan.

...and you're basing this claim on the opinion of one person who probably just wants more hits on his no-name site?

Because the typical Xbox gamer plays games like Madden, Gears, or Halo....the proof is in the sales

+1.  And they (a large plurality of the XBox faithful) spent the whole last gen bashing "gay" JRPGs...no wonder JRPGs don't do much for MS, now.

People who have opinions different than mine make me angry enough to post threads.

In all seriousness, though, what Final Fantasy game hasn't been 60 hours of tedious Japanese game cliches?

Final Fantasy XII.

Really.

Huh. Doesn't it play like an MMO, though?

I don't play MMOs, so I can't really tell you if it plays like one - you can either program your characters to perform certain actions in certain situations and let them carry out battles on their own, or you can take control and hand out every command like in previous Final Fantasies.

It does, however, get rid of random battles.

What I meant, though, was that it abandoned the story cliches, which to me is a lot more important.

And they're not going to stop playing Halo, Gears, and Madden just because there are also some JRPG's on the system.  This is a non-issue.

If you look at Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.....that seems to be the case

Is this to imply that the above games did not sell very well?
