Forums - Nintendo - SNES saving method

Hey guys, how do you save games on the SNES? I heard that you save directly on the cartridge, and the save capabilites of it wear out with the years? am I correct? if wrong, I wanna get an SNES, if right, I'll just keep emulating it.

Seriously? You don't know how the SNES saves games? It uses artridges. Cartridges ALWAYS have onboard storage (or password systems). With regard to the wearing-out, it takes such a long time that it's literally a non-issue. All my original SNES and N64 save files are still fine.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

It is not a non issue.  I have had to replace quite a few cart batteries over the years.

I have a few games that don't save like Chrono Trigger, and Donkey Kong Country, but most of my games work. I believe you could fix them though.

If it can't hold a save, it is because the battery died.

All you need is a tri-wing screwdriver (available on e-bay for like $5) and then a trip to the local battery store.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Cool, what kind of batteries does it use? I'm already intrigued, lol.

Also, thanks for the confirmation guys.

I haven't cracked open a cart in years, but they are the flat kind of battery you find in watches and such.

Your best bet for finding a replacement would be to open a cart up and then look at the number on the battery and find a replacement.

Okay, many thanks!

They are all there

What happens to me is the files suddenly erase but then they save again...
For games that erase and won't save again you can legally download the roms fro the games that you own...Even if the game you own is broken..
