This guys being up front, he believes that Nintendo's responsible toward expanding the market while Sony must sustain the market. It's perfect really... so what's Microsoft supposed to do? (No one say RROD the market please.. drat I said it.)

Plus Wii is a fad means it's selling like hot cakes, at least he accepts this guys give him some credit.

Sony leads in leading edge technology, PC's are just catching up with cell tech... sadly cell tech will never be used because of the condeluted coding structure needed to design even the simplest of apps for it, But it will catch on.

Seriously though where are the Sony guys =( No one is trying to spin this at all.

Oh well I stand by my above text .100%

LOL. I PC's are catchng up the Cell tech then why when the PS3 launched back in 2007 was there already PC cpu's with better flop performance in every category. Couple that with Intel and AMD going in completely different directions than the Cell and your comment hs no ground.

MAD ENOUGH TO SHARE THE LOVE!

I just sent the original interview http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/sony-we-don-t-need-the-senior-citizen-gamers

and sent to to the AARP Magazine. They love stuff like that. And just in case any other seniors feel a little pissed the email is

aarpmagazine@arp.org

I want you to read the actual interview.  They said they aren't trying to get Senior Citizens into gaming.  Please explain to me how this warrants your reaction.

You don't believe that people buy Wiis to play games in a new way?

He answered it...

So you believe that people buy a $250 console to swing a remote? Why can't they just use the remote that came with their TV?

So whats the new style of playing games? Plus a tv remote doens't have motion senser in it.

Have you ever played a Wii game? For example the pointer of the Wiimote makes games like Resident Evil 4 much more comfortable to play and swinging your arm to play Bowling, Tennis or Golf is really fun.

Bmaker11 said that people are buying the Wii so they can swing the remote. You are saying people are buying the Wii so they can play games in a new way that is fun...by using a remote.

Isn't that the exact same thing? He is just saying it in less words

and for the record, I bought my Wii because of the 4 Player games and a few other select games, the motion had nothing to do with it.

@Steven your point proves me right so I respect that.

Lol! Senior Citizens huh... XD

The statement was "we're not trying to get the senior citizen group to get into gaming." They specifically wrote off a significant portion of the population. About 21% actually.

This is stupid on two levels. One, video games have proven to have significant potential to contribute to health among those that can longer play strenuous physical games by encouraging physical activity that is possible, helping keep minds sharper through mental activity and provide an alternative to endless hours of TV. And that is not to mention that there is a significant number of us seniors who are active gamers.

Second, they may think their attitude doesn't matter because how many seniors will be buying themselves a PS3? Not a vast number. But they may have forgotten that we are grandparents who often give video gaming equipment to our grandchildren. I've given mine a PS2, a DS and a Wii and I thought I might surprise him this year with a PS3 but instead I'm going to give him a choice between an Xbox 360 or a gaming grade computer.

Sony has every right to decide whether or not they need senior citizens and senior citizens have every right to decide whether or not they need Sony.

Your only error is assuming that N64 wasn't important.  Without the stuff they did on N64, PS1 and 2 would not have been what they were.  Edit: Wii would not be what it is, if Nintendo hadn't been observing how the PS1 and 2 sold so much.

It's that competition and innovation that pushed that first 3D generation so hard and so rapidly.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

@Grampy
I just don't understand why you seem to think that you simply can't buy a product not aimed towards Senior Citizens. Because that's all they said, they aren't specifically targeting your age group. Yipdee shit. Do you only buy bags of rice with Matlock on them?

Even though he didn't call the Wii a fad, I honestly believe there's an ounce of truth in it. I mean, what reason are people buying it? It can't be for the games...and don't say something like Mario or Zelda as reasons, because otherwise, the Gamecube would have beat everyone last gen. Excite Truck and NinjaBreadMan aren't whats making people buy this system, it's the novelty of swinging that remote.......

...which is why, I sit at home randomly swinging a TV remote in emulation of a Wiimote.

Because I don't need games... I just like to swing something around!

Heck, maybe I should go take up cricket :P
