The statement was "we're not trying to get the senior citizen group to get into gaming." They specifically wrote off a significant portion of the population. About 21% actually.
This is stupid on two levels. One, video games have proven to have significant potential to contribute to health among those that can longer play strenuous physical games by encouraging physical activity that is possible, helping keep minds sharper through mental activity and provide an alternative to endless hours of TV. And that is not to mention that there is a significant number of us seniors who are active gamers.
Second, they may think their attitude doesn't matter because how many seniors will be buying themselves a PS3? Not a vast number. But they may have forgotten that we are grandparents who often give video gaming equipment to our grandchildren. I've given mine a PS2, a DS and a Wii and I thought I might surprise him this year with a PS3 but instead I'm going to give him a choice between an Xbox 360 or a gaming grade computer.
Sony has every right to decide whether or not they need senior citizens and senior citizens have every right to decide whether or not they need Sony.
