Forums - Sony - Sony: PS3's competitors feeling 'long in the tooth'

(any way you slice it, 512MB ram available for graphics vs 256MB for PS3 is an advantage

No it isn't at least not a significant one. Unified memory per se has never been an huge advantage. It may give devs a bit more wiggle room when they need less RAM in a scene and can use more VRAM but thats it. The 360 doesn't have more memory than the PS3.

I don't agree but I don't blame them for trying. 360 has more potential graphically (any way you slice it, 512MB ram available for graphics vs 256MB for PS3 is an advantage), but PS3 has more storage for cinematic.

srry couldn't help it but ps3 has 2 dedicated 256mb. 360 has one 512mb that has to do everything, having 2 dedicated ram makes it really efficient.

You read what Carmack said about the two right? A couple of quotes: -

On almost anything on the strictly graphical side in terms of pushing vertexs and triangles on there the 360 hardware is superior to the PS3's RSX

They're both 512MB machines, but on the PS3 it's partitioned into 256MB of video and 256 Megs of main, and one of the biggest things that Sony does poorly for developers is their system sucks up a lot more resources... so memory is much more painful on the PS3.

Don't believe the hype about "The Power Of Teh Cell!!"

Scott Steinberg is a total doucebag. Even the most optimistic of fanboys wouldn't say the 360 has been left in the dust. Unless he knows about some super incredible yet unannounced title, I don't think we will see Sony actually leaving the competition "in the dust" before winter 09/ 2010.

I think you underestimate the most optimistic of fanboys ;)

Yahoo said this in their review of E3 as well. They said that the games that Sony showed at their conference made those shown by Microsoft look old.

Do you have a link?

eh this man is embarrassing to sony man. it is really hard trying to like a company when they have jackasses chatting pure shit all day.

i do think the ps3 is the most powerful system on the market thopugh when it comes to consoles

Here is the link that crumas2 asked me to post. This blog was on Yahoo's main page in the days following E3. It actually doesn't say that Sony's Conference made the 360's games look old but that they make the 360's "lineup of Fable 2 and Gears of War 2 look a little tired."

Unified memory is a HUGE advantage and you know it. Lots of devs have said its hard work working with the 256mb on the PS3 - LOADS. No I'm not going to give you any sources before you ask because you know full well and your just making stuff up.

This is what happens when you listen to Scott Steinberg.

I think the difference is, MS concentrated on games that people can actually buy in 2008.
