Forums - Nintendo - Do you think Resident Evil 5 will evantually be ported to Wii?

I don't think they could port it without seriously compromising the entire game, to a degree which you probably wouldn't WANT to play it.

Like superchunk said you're completely wrong.  There haven't been any major changes to the core gameplay that the Wii could not handle.  The graphics would be "compromised" as you put it but that's about it.  And like others have said the superior controls on the Wii would more than make up for it.

Capcom needs to release 5 more test games first. RE4 and RE: UC weren't enough data for them to make an informed corporate decision regarding RE5 Wii.

They'll release RE: Survivor Kids, Are You Smarter Than A Zombie?, Dead Rising, Imagine: Zombies, RE4: Wii Edition: Directors Cut: Wii Motion Plus Edition with Balance Board support and gauge their sales to decide in 3-4 years if RE5 should make it to Wii sometime just before RE6 is released on the HD consoles.

Look at the bright side. Capcom fell into their own trap. Their cheap ports and games aimed at what they believe is the Wii major demographic (Zack & Wiki, Okami, We Love Golf, Sengoku Basara 2) sold a lot less  than their "mature" and "hardcore" titles like RE 4, RE UC (at least one is a improved port).

Heh, just watched that comparison video again. Those death animations are still the exact same!

If Capcom's games continue to sell well on the Wii, then this port is inevitable. After all, they're willing to re-do Dead Rising from scratch just to port it to the Wii, which involves making several compromises. RE5 is really just RE4 with better graphics (and I mean that in a good way), so porting that over will be much, much easier for Capcom. And Capcom does love its money...

Aside from compromising the graphics...what else would be compromised? If it dropped to RE4 level graphics, I don't think that would really be a bad thing.

Indeed re4 was a great looking game but.... They would need to do a lot more then just lower texture rez to make this work on Wii. There would need to be a serious poly count drop as well.

Not necessarily. Have you heard of normal mapping (also see bump mapping)?

Here is the model for Ada Wong, ripped from the PC version of Resident Evil 4 and loaded into Poser as an .OBJ file. Notice how blocky the model is. This model ends up looking as smooth as it does in-game thanks to bump maps, which are essentially greyscale bitmaps with height data. When we consider that the Wii is running at a much lower resolution than the HD consoles, I'm confident that RE5 will be possible on it.

Short answer is no.

Reason: The HD user base can cover the cost of development and marketing and profit.

I was actually hoping for DMC 4, that series needs a revamp in style and Wiimote could of done that... instead I got No More Heroes and I'm quite happy, and am silently waiting for part 2.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

That's poor reasoning. You're not in the game to make "enough" money.,

Very true. The real question is will they make MORE money by taking the time to do a quality port of it for Wii. I'd say that has already been proven. Dead Rising will just prove it for the umpteenth time.

Capcom earned a lot of money with Re4. So ... yes it will be ported. Look at the game, it is obviously a Resident Evil 4.5 - Africa Edition but with lower ambience.

Very true. Chris even runs the same as leon and shoots the same way so I don't think they made any serious upgrades to the engine so it'll probably come to wii.

It capcom for crying out loud not IW

DMC4 was a financial dissapointment for Capcom, if they have any hope for RE5 which is a much much much larger project they better put it on a console that will make them money.
