Sorry to keep posting, but I just thought of something- this falls perfectly in line wiht what Sean Malsttrom predicted. They will capture the casual amrket, then put out a trickle of casual games, because current casuals will still buy a few games, but for new casuals, Wii sports 1 and 2 and Wii fit and Wii play and Wii music and Mario Kart Wii or Animal Crossing is a long enough tlist to justify the system.
Once these games are made, Nintendo will focus on hardcore games, and move upstream to capture the hardcore market- or at least they will try. I think they are going to have muted success in that endeavor, and the PS360 market has already been established.

i can't believe the degree of hate! people should realize it's not about the current state of the wii, it's about the future state of the wii.

and there is absolutely nothing nintendo is doing that makes me think their dominance will last more than one generation.

kind of like the NES dominance, followed by slowly decaying sales of the SNES and N64 in the face of competition.

maybe in another 2 generations, nintendo comes up with something revolutionary again. but certainly not with wii2.

During the SNES era Nintendo had a REAL competitor; Genesis was a huge sucess for Sega, plus you had the TurboGrafx-Duo as a third option, that's the reason of the SNES decaying numbers. During the NES era  Nintendo didn't had a competitor, the Master System wasn't really popular and the Atari 7200 was a joke.

SNES still dominated and had more competition than Wii has. (TG16, Genesis, NeoGeo)

But that is besides the point.  Nintendo never needed "domination" they make compelling hardware and software that they sell at a profit.  They could have kept the GC the way it was and released 5 more Nintendo franchises and still had multi-million sellers.  But that wasn't very good for long term strategy.

Looking at the behavior of Nintendo from portables and consoles, I don't see a single instance where there wasn't innovation.  Not always hardware related innovation, but gameplay innovation.

Nintendo has always been a company that has innovation in gameplay and milks franchises for all they are worth.

Wii, to me, looks a lot like the original Gameboy.  Not as pretty but more functional for normal households.

It was mentioned here, but I assume with fewer or no "Wii" games, they'll make more franchise titles. Of course, they may also try to bridge those game so more people can play them.

Comparing the games that have been on the Wii to the games that were on the PS2 by the end of its first year alone shows that the Wii just can't compare.

PS2 games worth having by the end of 2001: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto III, Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy, ICO, SoulReaver 2, Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil.

The Wii's best games almost 2 years into its lifespan and following a disastrous E3: Super Mario Galaxy, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Kart (if you didn't buy the Gamecube Version), and a really bad version of Animal Crossing on the way.

Now some might say the Wii has awesome games but reviews at sites like IGN just don't bear that out. Most of these things like Wii Fit and Wii Sports (And Mario Kart Wii) have only received review scores in the 8 to 9 range.

Meh it's million ignore him.
