Gantz is really good, but the deepest anime in my opinion would be "Now and then, Here and There" (Ima sokoni iru boku) it has lots of allegorical content about war and its atrocities, but also a more subtle undertone about environmental issues. there are also lots of anime which will go much further in the subtext, all the work of Kon Satoshi deals with psychology, paranoia, schizophrenia, inner world, what is dream, what is reality, etc. You also have plenty of movies with subtext all through them like Nausica and the Valley of the Wind, The Wings of Honneamise (uncensored version), Jin Roh, Akira, etc.

Naruto is much much better for me (especially manga). It is one of the most popular anime/manga along with Dragon Ball and of course Pokemon

personally i like DBZ better. I watched them both when i was in 2nd grade to 4th grade and DBZ was alot funnier, more original, more action packed. Pokemon was the same every episode even though it was still entertaining, it seemed to not improve in creativity throughout the years except for the fact of adding Pokemon themselves. The storyline was the same: Capture Pokemon, be the best Pokemon trainer, stop Team Rocket
