just phone the support line at 1-800-4MY-XBOX   (dont tell them you had an external fan on your system)

@vaio: It's only about will it reach "critical point" just before turning it off. Since the RRoD is because of GPU? It could help to run a "cooldown" before you turn it off, ie go to menu for a few minutes or do some stuff that doesn't stress the GPU.

WTF, first you're supposed to have 3 years warranty but then you don't, or you can get a new one with 50% discount? So, the whole warranty was just a bunch of fancy words?

About the soldering melting, the moment after you turn off your console is the most critical moment, since processor is hottest in the inside and it cools only from the outside. When you turn the console off, the processor stops generating heat, but since the fan stops too, the cooling also stops and the processor keeps radiating the heat it already generated and reserved into it.

That is what confuses me, the extra fan i got for the 360 is always on as long as the 360 is plugged in but somehow it still RROD even though the fan is on. That´s why I don´t get it how it could RROD.

When you said extra fan do you mean one of those Intercoolers? Because I heard that microsoft claims they increase the risk of RROD and if they see marks from where the intercooler was installed they won't replace the console.

Yeah one of those you connect though the usb,  I bought it after the first rrod.

Yes, getting an RROD sucks. With that said, I don't understand what the issue is here. There is a 3 year RROD warranty. There should be no charges whatsoever for repair. Call Microsoft and they will arrange a repair. They will send a box directly to your house with pre-paid postage. Hell, they even put tape in the box to close it up. Drop it at any authorized fedex shipping point and it will make its way back to big brother. They will ship you a new one in 2-3 weeks. Free.

Actually the store had nothing to do with it, they gave me the adress I sent it and when it was returned I had to pay that ammount to check it out of the poststation.

What is it that you don't understand? It already happened to you once...

Call MS, get a coffin and ship it.

Also is it a launch console or a refurb console.. cause it can't be both

Yeah that makes sense, I guess you are right with your reasoning that seems like the most plausible to have happened in this case.

It´s exacly the same one as I bought and I got it fixed once before, I wasn´t that suprised over the rrod it self but more how it could happen under those conditions.

1. I only had played on it for 2 hours in the last session that had been 2 days before the rrod was discovered, and before that I hadn´t played for a while either.

2. The extra fan is always on as long as the 360 is plugged in which is almost always.

Under thoose conditions it´s hard to see where the overheating was causing the rrod but as mentioned earlier in other posts the las session might have been the tiping point even if it seems to be a small ammount of time to overheat.

@vaio: 2 hours isn't a short amount of time. If we'd know the mass of the heatsink and the power of the processor, we could calculate how fast the processor could overheat. It propably doesn't take more than 10-15 minutes.

Is the 3 year warantee a WW thing, because I got mine in June in the UK, and it says 1 year in the book supplied

The 12 month warranty is a standard retailer warranty. The 3 year warranty is direct from MS and covers the RROD only and yep, it applies in the UK too.
