Forums - Sales - Seems to bee no games for Wii at 08,Ps3/Xbox 360 can beat it?

The competition between Sony and Microsoft does make it harder for either one to come back and get ahead of the Wii right now; however, their combined numbers put them ahead of the Wii, so there is a very strong market for more serious games, it is just divided in two at the moment.

Yea right ... and Angelina Jolie is coming to your house tonight to jump your bones and Elvis will be driving. You are completely delusional as is the poster who attributes it all to grannies and tykes. The Wii is an entirely different way of playing games that many people, including experienced gamers prefer.

No software? I’ve heard that since the launch but if you check the top of this page EVERY top selling game worldwide is Wii with the exception of one DS. In the US, all Wii except one 360.

This train ain’t stopping and when Motion Plus kicks in … the fat lady sings. How many Wii sell this holiday season is how many Wii Nintendo makes. And with the current increase in production, that is going to be plenty.

34 million to 30 million isn't much of a huge lead when you factor in  the  Xbox360  having an extra year. It's 3.3% and eroding at about  .1% or more a week.

I like how people say there are no good games for the Wii in the 2nd half of 08. Opinion =/= Fact

There are about 2 times as many games coming out in the 2nd half of 08 that I want than in the 2nd half on 07.

To be honest even if no other game comes out for Wii for the next 2 years I don't think PS3 or 360 would even have a chance. Let alone just the rest of this year. Let alone the fact Wii has Wii Music and Animal Crossing which are likely to outsell anything PS360 have coming out this year and will be much much bigger system sellers.

Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit from today till the end of this gen will sell more than any PS360 game that isn't out yet other than GT5 as I expect both to sell about 8 million more at least. Final Fantasy XIII combined will sell more but I mean on a single platform. So in reality Wii has 2 games already out that are going to move systems far more than anything coming to PS360 this year.

Mario Kart & Wii Fit will completely blow past everything.  I expect both to sell at least 15mil - it's doubtful GT5 will pull off numbers like its predecessors, and no game in the FF series has even hit 10mil.  The top sellers belong to Nintendo this round.  GTA4 (sales on PS360 combined) is the only game with a shot at being higher, and I really doubt it'll have legs like the Nintendo games.

@OP: It's all too common to see this happening - you're putting too much weight on your opinions, and in turn it clouds you from being able to think objectively.  Wii Sports & Wii Fit should already have shown that the "hardcore" opinion is not shared amongst the general population, yet people keep making this same mistake - the assumption that everybody thinks like they do.  If I showed you the movie Titanic, you might guess it couldn't even break even.  The truth is his opinion isn't relevant to sales, it's the opinion of everybody else that matters.  Animal Crossing (& likely Wii Music) will probably outsell your favorite game coming out this winter, whether you like it or not.

The lesson is, try your best to separate your subjective thoughts from the facts.  If you can understand that the world does not revolve around you, that you are simply one person among the millions of other potential customers (whether you think everybody else is stupid or not), it'll help you out.  For example, I personally hate most popular music nowadays, but I wouldn't let that cloud the fact that they'll sell more than the stuff I like.

"Wii does not need games to sell. It sells to all the young kids with the games already available and they do not care about quality. The Wii is like the new Yo-Yo."

Wow. That was retarded.

Well, I don't own a Wii, and I don't see any reason for me to want to get one other than the next Zelda or Mario games. Of course, the first and only Nintendo handheld that I ever bought was the NES Special Edition GBA SP, and I was playing games a long time before Nintendo ever put out the NES (On Atari 2600, Colecovision, an IBM PC Jr. and various Tandy IBM clones that I bought over the years). But much like the Wii, the Gameboy as it existed prior to the GBA never seemed to be worth my time. I could see myself being more likely to buy a DS than a Wii but only because of the Square Enix games on there. I certainly would not consider Nintendogs to be something that would encourage me to buy the system except for the fact that Carrie Underwood looks nice in the commercial. The only Nintendo console I've ever truely liked was the SNES and again that was because of Zelda, Metroid, and the Square games. Something like Wii Sports would only hold my attention for a few moments much as Pong did back in the day before I wanted to move on to something much more intellectually satisfying like a good book, movie, or deeper type of game like a very immersive rpg like Fallout 3.

In software sales maybe.
Hardware sales for both Wii and DS......keep dreaming. They will not sell beat any Nintendo hardware numbers. They'll be on top until next year.

Well, the only thing I have to say is that you should try to understand the mentality of the typical consumer before making sales predictions. A lot of "gamers" have failed to understand that the masses have bought their console of choice last gen, the PS2, for different reasons as they do.

The Wii is doing fantastic, no amount of verbal gymnastics from you will change that. If the spectrum of 360 and PS3 games is all that you want to enjoy, then do that - enjoy all of the fun games on those systems.

I far prefer Nintendo's offerings, but I'm not going to poo all over what the 360 and PS3 offer. I love my 360, and when I have the cash I will have a PS3. I could give my entire gaming history like you have and tell everyone why I prefer Nintendo, but why would I do that? Although this thread was probably started as a way to slight the Wii, it's focus was about the chances of the 360 or PS3 to eclipse the Wii this year. Stating our gaming history and preferences have little, if anything, to do with that.
